Bragg Jam Artist Profile: Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Rainbow Kitten Surprise is a five piece rock band from Boone, NC. What started as two friends playing acoustic guitars in a dorm room soon became a band that sounds familiar, yet unique. They possess that strange quality of being able to write songs that feel like you've heard them a thousand times the first time you hear them. Songs that sound intimate and plaintive on record become crowd pleasing show stealers live. And, they open one of their videos with a desolate stranger pouring a glass of Old Crow, so I am pretty obligated to be a fan.
For fans of: Bon Iver (if he wasn't scared to rock), Kings of Leon (with less arena rock posing), Avett Brothers (with fewer banjo breakdowns)
Other Bragg Jam Artist profiles - Frankie Cosmos
Bragg Jam Artist Profile: Frankie Cosmos
Frankie Cosmos is the stage name of Greta Kline, a singer songwriter from Brooklyn, NY. She deals primarily in short, lyrically dense, incredibly hooky pop songs, much like Guided By Voices. And, also like Robert Pollard of GBV, no subject is too slight for a song. Wanting a dog? Check. A birthday party? Check. Brownies? Check. But just because the subjects are slight and the run times are short, that doesn't mean Kline doesn't have much to say. She's able to string together simple observations and humble honesty into little indie pop masterpieces.
For fans of: Built to Spill (with less guitar solos), Guided By Voices (with better self editing) and Alvvays (with a little more DIY intimacy)
Bragg Jam’s 2016 Concert Crawl is set for Saturday, July 30th. More info at http://www.braggjam.org/.
Bragg Jam Announces Details of Second Sunday’s Return
Bragg Jam has announced the return of their Second Sunday concert series. The shows will start April 10 with Charleston based SUSTO. The Bragg Jam Concert Crawl is always one of the Summer's biggest and best events in Middle GA and the return of the Second Sunday shows is always a nice reminder that it is on the horizon. And, of course, a great excuse to get out of the house and enjoy good music, great friends, and maybe even a drink or two.
For more details, check out Bragg Jam's Facebook page here and check out a few SUSTO songs below.
Second Sunday is BACK! Bragg Jam is kicking off the 2016 season of Second Sunday wth country rockers SUSTO, on Coleman Hill. We will also be announcing...
Blimey. Bragg Jam's all wrapped up, with a bow a bit askew, but looks just gorgeous in my eyes. After some intense weeks, months, sleepless nights, grumpy days, we pulled off something quite lovely, enjoyed by many groovy folks. We got to show off what Macon can do, both to our own community and to those from far flung spots (like the exotic region of upstate New York). Seeing a helluva lot of smiling faces, and a buttload of seriously sweet social media chatter, makes every ounce of stress forgotten. I can't wait for next year... Well let's not go that far. I'm immensely excited for a few months of chilling on the couch and catching up with some serious Star Trek and ice cream with mah boo. But yesterday, feeling battered and bruised, but groovy and chill, I felt that this gif was hella appropriate for the way I feel about our bloody brilliant board. I love the snot out of you a-holes.
I’ve been waiting a while to share this one, the final lineup for Bragg Jam 2015! Really enjoy working on this with such a great group of folks with a solid taste in music!
Located a little over an hour’s drive north from Atlanta, Macon is a boutique town (approximately 90,000 people in the entire county) that offers a bigger city punch. A great deal of the success here has been accomplished through what they lovingly refer to as “Macon Made,” a conglomeration of a wide array of local businesses that have branded themselves in support of each other as well as the city.
A good way to grasp a bit of the flavor and flair of Macon is through any number of its annual events and festivals, such as the international Cherry Blossom Festival, when the city transforms into a “pink, cotton-spun paradise” featuring more than 300,000 Yoshino cherry trees (with reportedly more cherry trees than in Washington DC); Bragg Jam, similar to the popular South By Southwest Festival and featuring some 40 bands and nine stages; and Macon Octoberfest, where craft beers from breweries around the state takes center stage. Our next Macon adventure will delve into the city’s historic music heritage and learn how Macon earned its moniker as the “Song and Soul of the South.”
Bragg Jam represeeeeent!
