Happy second Sunday of Advent.
Good morning everyone! I’m just going to call it second Sunday or first Tuesday...La la la la la la....
Click to hear a rare episode of the forgotten NBC Radio program Second Sunday. This documentary-news program was a monthly extension of the type of production NBC Radio was doing at the time. Monitor, a magazine show, was NBC Radio’s primary original production at the time. Sort of a forgotten and neglected era of radio. Now, what will it be like in the Year 2000?
The Second Sunday
May, 14th 2017
Let's talk about mothers day,
Let's talk about how this day is meant to be spent,
This day is here to show appreciation to the women in our lives that made our lives possible,
This day was meant for the woman who brought you into this world,
To remind her all the reasons why she shouldn't be the one to take you out of it,
Today,
For most people,
Is a special day,
Celebrated with fancy brunch gatherings,
Over sentimental cards and flowers that will not survive the coming week,
Today,
For most,
Is a day of magic,
But for the rest of us,
It's a yearly reminder that,
For whatever reason,
Our mothers decided that they would not be celebrated on the second Sunday in May,
For my mother,
A mixed drink of mental instability and narcotics,
My sister pretends it doesn't affect her,
She stands tall,
Chin up to the world,
She keeps everything inside,
No matter how hard we try to pry it out of her,
Let me tell you about my brother,
He learned early on that the women you love in life,
Are like seasons,
They come and pass,
Some are strong and cold,
Others are warm and loving but always fleeting,
I myself,
Am not immune to the actions of my mother,
I carry the traits and burdens of both my sister and brother,
Always retreating,
Mixed with an addictive personality,
Sprinkled with mental instability,
I know not how to carry relationships,
Family, romantic or other wise,
I used to view myself as “Not like those other guys,”
Turns out i'm not like any other person,
Im a version of my mother,
But without the highs she had to keep her flying,
I lost my ability to reach the sun long ago,
A modern day Icarus,
I know only the lows,
I've been running and hiding much too long,
My foolish pride aside,
I sit here,
Writing these words,
Half drunk,
Eric clapton on the stereo,
While the rest of you make mimosa toasts,
To your wonderful mothers,
That coached you and kept your egos unbruised and intact,
With constant reminders of her love,
How i envy you,
I hope you all can appreciate how lucky you are,
I hope you never have to wake up on the second Sunday in May,
And have no one to celebrate.
HAPPY NATIONAL HUG YOUR HOUND DAY!!! National Hug Your Hound Day is observed annually on the second Sunday in September. This day is dedicated to your furry pooch and the way your dog spends his day. #HugYourHoundDay / #NationalHugYourHoundDay /
