traumatic brain injury - a umbrella term for mild to severe head injuries from an outside force that causes damage to the brain. falls, car/motor accidents, violence from another, and sports injuries are some of the most common causes, which are most often diagnosed as mild tbis, or concussions. mild forms can cause temporary change to one’s mental status or loss of consciousness, with more severe or repeated forms causing long term damage, loss of consciousness, cognitive impairments, change in self, and emotional distress
brain damage - degeneration and possible death of brain cells, often caused by injury, illnesses, or trauma. often caused by traumatic brain injuries, extreme fevers, strokes, oxygen deprivation, or similar. brain damage can alter cognitive function, emotional state and function, and physical ability

the dark green stripe represents advocacy for accommodations and resources
the dark blue stripe represents severe forms of tbis

fever caused brain damage - while rare, fevers above 108°F can cause brain damage, particularly when the fever is connected to an underlying infection. high fevers often worsen existing brain damage and injuries by accelerating the rate of severity of the damage
illness/infection caused brain damage - severe illnesses can often cause brain damage, typically through infection, lack of oxygen, or inflammation. severe viral infections, meningitis, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis are the typical illness which cause damage to the brain and nerve cells. infection and illness cause also heighten preexisting brain damage, significantly amplifying its severity

one may relate to zombies or being a zombie to reclaim harmful stereotypes or past experiences such as being called ‘zombified’ or ‘brainless’, being treated like a zombie, or being called similar to a zombie because of one’s brain damage. one may relate to depiction of zombies in media or the concept of them due to their brain damage and subsequent disabilities, such as lowered brain activity, slow movements, unclear or lack of speech, disconnected or lack of emotions, or similar. one may feel this kinship with zombies affects their identity in some way, being through their gender or gender expression, expansive identity, alter or non-humanity, or simply how one sees oneself
