There was an old religious thriller from back in the day with Demi Moore called The Seventh Sign.
In it Demi Moore plays a pregnant woman whose baby's soulless birth is to be the "seventh" and last sign of the biblical apocalypse. Throughout the movie, there are signs of what's to come, including natural disasters and a coming execution of a man with down syndrome who killed his own parents because they were brother and sister (he was following what God said since it was incest)... There are the tropes of religious horror including a blue-eyed white man as the second coming of Jesus... It keeps flashing to my mind lately between that old school gaze of what "bad signs" are in that film, to seeing FAR WORSE mess happening and it feels both like strangely naive dogma and, so small in scope and imagination, in comparison to what we've all REALLY seen in today's American reality, in just a little over a week. That film is just so quaint, now. *insert helpless manic laughter that devolves to tears*
