Intrusive thoughts are the worst, violent imagery, every insecurity or bad memory playing over and over, beating down on you no matter how often you push it away. Sometimes the only way to escape it for me is through media, something to distract my mind from the bombardment of unwanted thoughts.

Anxiety feels like an absurd battle against the paths of my mind, so accustomed to fear the things out of my control weather likely or unrealistic, but learning more about how it's triggered and why my mind responds the way it does, has helped me take great steps in learning how to live with it so that it doesn't rule my whole life.

This neuroimaging technique involves essentially inserting fluorescent proteins into the genes of cells, each cell takes a combination of these proteins and can create one out of up to 100 different colours. This allows researchers to study neural circuitry which can help better understand psychological and neurological disorders and I'm fascinated by it.
