I could talk about the different ways Riddler's riddles work and the watsonian explanation for the doylean reason that sometimes his riddles need to be easily solved by kids but still mark him as a genius compared to everyone but Batman. But instead I wanna talk about the complete insanity that is Frank Gorshin Riddler's riddles. Sometimes he has pretty functional riddles that work as good logical clues for his next steps, more likely he has pretty functional riddles that work as weird non-sensical clues for his next steps, even more likely he has abstract maybe riddles who make no sense in absolutly none of it's steps and leads to even more non-sense.

It's very similar to the Grimm fairy tale The Riddle (not very creative and also kindda mksleading because the riddle is not the most important part of the story), the prince wins the wits duel by asking the following riddle:

"One killed none, but still killed twelve. What is it?"

It has the format of a normal riddle, a first glance would trick you into thinking it is a normal riddle. But NOPE. The answer is: "a raven that ate a poisoned dead horse and died, after death this raven was ate by twelve murderes who then also died." And yes it is a convoluted summary of a thing the prince lived!

Now while most Riddlers would hate this riddle, this is exactly the type of shit 66 Batman's Ed would pull. Now don't get me wrong this is an apreciation post. I LOVE Gorshin's Nygma and his ridiculous convoluted absurd puzzles. I rated the fairy tale higher just because it reminded me of him.

This post has no conclusion. But since I like conclusions: In the Adam West Batman universe Dick Grayson and Edward Nygma carry the singular braincell of all Gotham and it is a very weird braincell. Rarelly Batman and Alfred get to borrow the braincell. Joker borrowed once but he diddn't like the experience. Catwoman has a lot of braincells, she stole it from Metropolis, she never let's people get her stolen braincells (she did give one to Batgirl in the name of girlpower).
