Let’s Discuss Cognitive Enhancers + BrainZyme review
This is one of the most important blog posts I have ever written and shared with you on this platform! A while ago, I was contacted by BrainZyme, a UK based cognitive enhancement supplement company to try out their product. I was hesitant and extremely sceptical about it but I wanted to investigate their product because although their website seems to be well put together, there’s not a lot of information about what the supplements do. Their claim is that their supplement pill will “get you smart” and that you will be able to “get more done”.
So I hope this review helps some of you better understand the deal with cognitive enhancers and nootropics, the difference between taking “smart drugs” and supplements and be informative enough for you to be able to make your own decision on whether or not you should use BrainZyme products.
I should start off with a disclaimer that I was able to graduate from college with straight A’s, a high GPA and get into grad school without ever using cognitive enhancers or “smart drugs”. You too can achieve all of these things without using such supplements and/or performance drugs. Read THIS blog post about my best study tips for receiving straight A’s in college.
BrainZyme's product is a cognitive enhancement supplement, also known as brain supplements. Think gummy bear vitamins but specifically targeted for your brain. I received their Original and Professional supplement packs and they both have a similar ingredient list.
Cognitive enhancement supplements include herbs, vitamins, amino acids, minerals and mushrooms, which are all natural supplements that are also cognitive enhancers. Such brain supplements have a long history of use and are considered to be safe, they can make you and your brain healthier (especially if you have vitamin deficiency) and they’re readily available. They take a while to have an affect and while doing research for this post, I found that most of the discussed ingredients are ingredients of BrainZyme products, such as ginkgo biloba, choline and B vitamins. The BrainZyme supplement packs both include matcha and guarana; however, the Original pack additionally has 7 vitamins/minerals and the Professional pack also has choline, ginkgo biloba and 11 vitamins/minerals.
Matcha is one of the main ingredients, which is a type of whole leaf green tea that has caffeine. “Because Matcha is made from crushed whole tea leaves, the caffeine content is somewhat higher than that of bagged tea. The Matcha caffeine levels can actually equal half the level of a black cup of coffee. When comparing Matcha's caffeine to steeped green tea you receive 31.8 mg caffeine in regular green tea and 68 mg of caffeine in Ceremonial Matcha.” (SOURCE). This is the relatively fast caffeine boost that the BrainZyme supplement pills would provide for energy.
The second uniting ingredient in the BrainZyme supplement packs is guarana, which is a long term stimulant that takes a while to dissolve in your body but would provide you with enough energy throughout the day. You can read more about it HERE but it is also safe to use.
The other ingredients vary depending on the supplement pack, but choline is a macronutrient that is important for liver function, brain development and nerve function (SOURCE), ginkgo biloba is an antioxidant that benefits brain function (SOURCE) and the rest are different vitamins and minerals, such as iron, zinc, iodine, vitamins B1,B5,B6 and B12.
Additionally, BrainZyme supplements are cruelty free and vegan. They’re free from gluten, lactose, soy, GMO, sugar and other allergens.
Most importantly, cognitive enhancement supplements are NOT cognitive enhancing drugs, also known as smart drugs. Cognitive enhancing drugs, often referred to as smart drugs or study drugs, are manufactured pharmaceuticals taken to improve memory, learning, focus, attention, and other mental abilities. They’re used by people to have a cognitive edge. Think Spencer Hastings in this episode of PLL, where she bought smart drugs from Andrew to be able to do work.
Many of these drugs were created to treat non-cognitive disorders, but have been appropriated for off-label use — an unapproved use of an approved drug. The most popular smart drugs are adderall, ritalin and modafinil. For example, modafinil is a popular study drug that was created to treat sleep disorders and is now misused for other purposes. The biggest problem is that these drugs are supposed to be prescription only but they’re easy to purchase online or from your local drug dealers (specifically in the US) (SOURCE).
I hope this post provides you with enough information to tell the difference between cognitive enhancement supplements and cognitive enhancing drugs, as the latter will definitely alter your cognitive state. Smart drugs or study drugs are definitely not something that I would ever feel comfortable of supporting and I strongly advise you to avoid their use.
However, the BrainZyme supplements are safe to use and give you energy and necessary nutrients that will benefit your brain. Please keep in mind that I only use BrainZyme products as an example and that you can choose to use any other brand of supplement of your liking/doctors recommendations. If you are considering BrainZyme products then I strongly advise you discuss this with your doctor. You can check out their website HERE for more information.
In conclusion, I hope this post was somewhat informative. I hope that just like me you now have a better understanding of cognitive enhancement supplements, what they are and how they will affect your body if you decide to take them. This post is not a sponsored ad for BrainZyme, as I requested to receive their product to investigate their claims. I definitely do not think that their products are better than those of other brands or a necessity for students to achieve success in their studies. I don’t think that these supplements will help you get smart but it will provide you with the energy to do work. You know what else will help you achieve greatness and productivity? Healthy eating, sleep and a routine. Let me know if you would like a post about creating a routine and staying healthy while striving to achieve your goals! I also hope that this teaches you to do your own research before you take any supplements in the future. I wish you all the best this exam season!
