So a completely self-serving question: now that chapter one has wrapped, what do you think of BRAND ECHO?
Oh sweet, Chapter One wrapped! Agonizingly appropriate that in my first check at catching up with it for this, I found that ‘Brand Echo’ is also a marketing site (“Brand communication that’s not just talk”).
I don’t want to get into it too much since it’s 36 pages so far and not based on anything preexisting - meaning prospective readers can actually come into this fairly cold - but I think it’s fair given Charlotte’s writing on it in the past that I got a real whiff of Ultra Comics about this. It’s not at all that story, nor really told in the same way beyond the manic fervor it reaches for its climax, but it’s a very different crack at very similar ideas of our relationships with our Content and our conscientiousness regarding it. Ing keeps the storytelling clear even as the visuals reach a literally nightmarish overload for the third act, Charlotte keeps it grounded in efficiently-conveyed but quietly wrenching character work, and both communicate the weight and barrenness of the world here in spite of entertainment in almost literally every direction. Definitely worth your time, even if only for the A+ ad work up front.
