lauren & brandon ♡ dwts journey
lauramarano To celebrate 11 shows in a row, meet some of the people I’ve been spelling with 😏🐝❤️
I’m done with this show I literally would have been fine if Chandler took second and Ilona won but they both lost?!? This show is so rigged like who the fuck was voting for Joey?!?
They have a contestant on here flat out say Britt inspired her to do ballroom because she doesn’t see a lot of women who look like her in the genre and wants to continue that representation for the next generation and yet DWTS will absolutely continue to treat Britt (and Brandon) like garbage
So frustrating 😤
Chandler and Brandon won the Mirrorball in my heart, but they should've won it for real.
the fact that chandler kinney didnt win dancing with the stars season 33 still boggles my mind like she CLEARLY deserved first place. joey was good but he should've been 2nd behind Chandler since she was still better than him.
DWTS Season 34, Week 3 Review: Tick tock and testing my patience
We are here with a tiktok night as the show tries to build new audiences through newer social media channels.
I didn’t hate the idea of a tiktok theme on paper, but I feel like they didn’t execute it properly. A lot of the songs weren’t suitable for ballroom, and even the ones that were, the band covers weren’t great.
I also really really disliked a lot of the choreography this week. It just did not hit the mark. Some of it was maybe bad song, but even the ones with okay songs didn’t really wow or excite me. There were a few exceptions, thankfully. I know it’s also not entirely the pros’ faults - some songs trended specifically on tiktok with a dance trend, and others went viral for non-dance related trends. For those who got songs in the former category, there is almost an obligation to work those moves in and it can affect their whole creative process. So I don’t want to beat them down too hard, but it really just was not enjoyable for me.
Jen and Jan Cha Cha - 7,6,6 T19 hmm…this was just…okay. Jen would flicker between moments of looking really good and moments of looking off balanced and a bit soft. I think Jan can give her more advanced choreography, but someone also reminded me that she is still only ~12 weeks postpartum and they may be working around that still, however for she may be.
Lauren and Brandon Cha Cha - 6,6,6 T18 so this was one of the dances where they were kinda expected to do certain trending dance moves to it. I do think at least this trend kinda gelled better into Latin but still there was that clear “dance break now” moment. For Lauren’s technique, she didn’t look grounded at all in any of her walks. I noticed she rehearses in socks and walks around on demi point, but that’s actually a different biomechanic to walking and dancing in heels. You can tell she’s tiptoeing around as if she doesn’t have shoes on, but it doesn’t work for Latin.
Danielle F and Pasha Foxtrot - 7,7,7 T21 bad song choice, but the modifications needed to remix this song to fit a foxtrot also aren’t that extensive, so I dunno why the band couldn’t do it. Foxtrot requires a slight rise and fall and a gliding quality which I didn’t really get.
Jordan and Ezra (Argentine??) Tango - 8,8,8 T24 official description of this dance says tango. In anctuality it is about 60% Argentine. And CAI didn’t dock them for having lifts. So I’m really confused what it is supposed to be. Still, Jordan did the international tango parts very well, and also did the Argentine tango parts well. Best frame of all the ladies so far despite the height difference. I wasn’t sure how to rate her because her week 1 dance had little content, and I felt like week 2 style was one that would suit her existing strengths regardless. Now, this shows me that she can be a really strong and good dancer and go far. One moment in the ronde where her foot was very clearly not pointed.
Dylan and Daniella K Foxtrot - 7,8,8 T23 wow he actually looked pretty good. Good frame that he held throughout. His footwork could be better though. He was stepping directly onto his toes to get the rise and fall instead of pushing through his feet. Really shitty song for the style. I feel like Daniella K coukd have just choreographed this dance without listening to the music and they also just danced as such. Which frankly, was probably the best for this song.
Elaine and Alan Tango - 7,7,7 T21 another one that looked like Argentine tango at points instead of international tango, though not to the same extent of Jordan’s. Elaine’s stance was odd at times. I think she was trying hard to get the body contact and compromising elsewhere. Left arm dropped in the frame.
Whitney L and Mark Samba - 8,8,8 T24 the fucking tiktok bit in the middle. Mark. I thought better of you. Ugh. Also was it just me or Mark looked a bit flat footed in this dance. Now the actual samba parts, I thought Whitney L was really good. A few moments where it did look like she was forcing the hip action very hard though. I feel like she could get overenthusiastic about these Latin dances. So far she hasn’t gotten to the part of looking out of control yet. But she should be careful. She is good. Don’t overdo it.
Scott and Rylee Jazz - 8,7,7 T22 jazz is essentially a freestyle atp for this show. I thought Scott started really well when he was dancing with the troupe guys. It was the side by side parts with Rykee where he seemed to lose energy. There were moments where it felt like he was just walking while doing some arm movements, and lacking the sharpness to match the beats.
Hilaria and Gleb Samba - 7,8,7 T22 Very sharp and very clean lines, but lacking bounce. With her experience, she should not lack bounce!!! Although actually, I have seen a bit of this trend towards a stiffer, hyper sharp but less bouncy samba in actual dance competitions - but usually in solo female category because there is no partner to leverage off. And usually for the junior and teen levels, because they are still developing. Girl. Gleb gave really good choreography here.
Andy and Emma Foxtrot - 6,6,6 T18 another bad song. I saw Andy make one attempt at doing a rise and fall, then the rest of the dance was flat. Some attempt at sway but he moved his arms rather than his frame. I feel like they scored this to recognise his progress from last week, but on the night, I think it was 1-2 marks over scored.
Robert and Witney C Salsa (apparently) - 8,7,7 T22 so I had to check what the assigned style was for this because this was so hard to recognise as a salsa. The producers are very much to blame for this one, because they remixed the song for this but the remix didn’t even fit the supposed style they assigned. I feel like this would have been better if they used the original song and labelled it as jazz but still with mostly the same choreography. Robert looked GREAT doing whatever. It was just hard to identify what the “whatever” was.
Alix and Val Quickstep - 8,7,8 T23 nice footwork, posture a bit odd sometimes, left arm dropped in hold. I feel like this song is about 90% of the way to being a quickstep and it would be easy to tweak it to get the last 10% so it’s a bit frustrating to see them do a mostly good dance to a song that’s just that bit off.
Leaderboard this week
24/30: Whitney L, Jordan
23/30: Dylan, Alix
22/30: Robert, Hilaria, Scott
21/30: Danielle F, Elaine
19/30: Jen
18/30: Lauren, Andy
Elimination
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but the elimination this week is based on week 2 votes + week 3 scores
Last 3 standing (“not necessarily the bottom 3”): Lauren, Andy, Elaine
Eliminated: Lauren
I feel like in another season this might have been a shock result, but I think this really just showed what the voting demographics are. 5th Harmony are a couple years past their heyday so Lauren might not have the same base making a concerted voting effort the way Normani and Ally had. Meanwhile, people like Danielle F, Elaine, and Andy have large nostalgia factors attached to them. I think it’s hard to judge the voting power of the tiktok influencers’ fan bases, but their fandom is still a lot more current.
Also, Ally had the narrative of being the one made fun of for being a bad dancer. Lauren has more natural presence and technique but hasn’t quite had a storyline to reel people in. Coupled with a fan base that maybe isn’t as current or active, on a season where the spread between contestants’ abilities is quite small, Lauren was in a precarious position.
Lauren and Brandon?? Lauren and fucking Brandon???
