Award-winning illustrator, designer, sculptor and film director Brandon Oldenburg (Illustration ’95), was on campus for Ringling College’s 2017 Preview Day last Saturday!

He gave a fascinating presentation to current and prospective students about his creative journey and entering the uncharted territory of Virtual Reality, a field that Ringling College students can now major in starting next fall. He introduced us to his newest venture, Flight School, a multipurpose studio that just released the new VR experience Manifest 99. I was fortunate to be able to pick Brandon’s brain a few days before his arrival, but he’s even more awesome in person!

With her love of technology and her passion for the project, singer Imogen Heap added her amazing voice to a soundtrack that wraps the audience in Dolby Atmos® sound.

A cinematic poem about the world-changing power of invention, ESCAPE is the latest example of animated storytelling that showcases state-of-the-art Dolby® technologies. Combining techniques such as miniatures and animation with the spectacular imaging of Dolby Vision™ and the moving audio of Dolby Atmos®, ESCAPE gives the audience a joyous vision of the future. 

ESCAPE, a sequel to two-time Daytime Emmy Award-winning short Silent, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend.

Flight School is a collective of artists and technicians, fearlessly exploring the unknown in films, games, VR and whatever lies in the wide and boundless sky. Our research investigates the intersection of narrative and emerging technology. Each of our expeditions explore the outer limits of storytelling, innovation and design.

Our team facilities are located in Dallas, Texas, and efforts led by esteemed leadership from Reel FX and Moonbot Studios including Academy Award-winning Chief Creative Officer, Brandon Oldenburg, Emmy Award-winning Executive Creative Director, Limbert Fabian, CEO Kyle Clark and Executive Vice President, Lampton Enochs.
