Taking Flight
🎉🎉🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY @firehelpmeforget!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I made this little illustration of Katniss's outfit in Victor, Mentor, Mockingjay: Taking Flight, her fantastic sequel in her mentor everlark series, to celebrate my lovely friend and her thoughtful and clever fanfics. Go wish her a happy birthday and take a look at her ao3
Victor, Mentor, Mockingjay: Taking Flight: The 74th Annual Hunger Games is over and Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark managed to do the impossible. They mentored Owen Sparrow, an angry, orphan kid from the Seam, and turned him into a Victor.
Now following this unheard of back-to-back win for District 12, Katniss, Peeta, and Owen must all walk the tightrope they have strung for themselves, as things become more and more uneasy in Panem and more and more dangerous. With the Quarter Quell coming next year, our District 12 Victors must learn how to heal after another traumatic Games, learn to live again, and learn how to fight for another day.
Chapter 23: Early Days of the Games Now Posted!

Taking Flight: Wishes and Action
Valerie remembered being a little girl and having a book based off of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Where one the cat puppet wished something bad would happen and it did, and she felt guilty. The end moral being wishing can't make things come true.
But no matter how much she told herself that, she couldn't make herself believe it as easily as Henriette Pussycat did. She'd wished so many times for all her misfortunes she blamed on the ghost boy to fall on him instead.
She wished he knew what it felt like to lose your home and security He'd been homeless on the streets of Gotham
That he'd feel the strain of her relationship with her father when he'd exposed her. His own parents tried to kill him
That he could understand the strain of living a double life. He tried to balance being the Fenton's son and being a ghost
She'd tried to delude herself about Danny disappearing the same time as Phantom. His parents weren't wrong about the bullying situation. But then they'd been taken to court and Danny had been exposed as a ghost-meta. It might have had a chance to have still been kept secret, if not for the courts taking away Jazz too (which, understandable) and both Fentons had made a big enough stink that details had gotten out. And now, even as she felt she was drowning in her hunting (which she would have been if Sam and Tucker hadn't stepped in) she couldn't help but feel she deserved it.
Her phone buzzed and she hoped it wasn't another work shift, hoped her father wasn't angry with her, hoped- It was from Wes.
Turn on the news, Red the text said.
Oh no. Not this. Of course the guy who figured out Danny figured her out. Red? she texted back, trying to play dumb.
Don't worry. My lips are sealed. We both have our regrets
It hadn't occurred to her till that moment that Wes was likely feeling just as guilty as her. After all, he'd spent so much time trying to expose Danny as Phantom, and was now hit in the face as what that success would have cost, just exactly what he could have been responsible for.
Just check the news, before you hear about it at school
Hear about what? She opened her phone and googled 'breaking news'. Her page filled with articles about the GiW blockading Gotham, putting the city under curfew, and being authorized to use force when necessary. Gotham where Danny was. And she wanted to scream because no! Danny was finally safe and in the care of someone who wouldn't kill him and those fuckers had just gotten him cornered. She scanned all the articles she could find and one stood out, about some 'concerned citizens' who'd given the GIW the ability to track the ghostly menace. She could only think of one couple who could have done that. She switched from just chatting with Wes to the rarely used Class Groupchat the school had instituted for...reasons that she was sure sounded like a good idea at the time, but with lack of forethought.
The Fentons sold Danny out to the GiW
Wishes didn't make things come true. For that you needed action. And Valerie was going to make sure her actions made it perfectly clear where she and her classmates fell on the subject of what the Fentons had done to their son.
