Melissa's Sidecar

The Ritz Hotel in Paris, France, claims the Sidecar as their cocktail, saying it was created around the end of World War I.

Once in a great while, I try to surprise my husband by making a new cocktail since he is the resident bartender. I found this one when looking for classic cocktails. It’s citrusy and sweet with the brandy but has plenty of kick.

Honey basil brandy smash

1.5oz cognac

.75oz Fresh Lemon Juice

.75oz honey syrup (.5oz warm water to two heaping bar spoons honey)

Two big basil leaves

Mix honey and water in shaker. Add cognac and basil. Muddle basil well. Add lemon juice. Shake with ice. Strain into coupe glass, garnish with basil leaf.

Brandy Melba

This cocktail of the Melba family is supposed to imitate a dessert named after the Australian singer Nellie Melba. The dessert, called the Peach Melba, was invented by the chef of New York's Savoy Hotel, also the site of many cocktails in its heyday. I felt it necessary to hurry up and feature this cocktail while fresh peaches are available, even though no fresh peach is used besides the garnish. Cognac here please, and in this case it is Martell Single Distillery for its dry cleanness. There's plenty of sweet ingredients in the recipe to compensate. It's a fittingly French set of ingredients with Chambord in there as well. For the rest I used peach whiskey by Evan Williams.

MST3K Cocktail: Hamlet

4 parts cognac

3 parts cherry brandy

1 part Cointreau

2 parts lime juice

1 part grenadine

Shake together with ice, strain into balloon glass.

Pecan Infused Brandy

Mix 2 parts brandy with 1 part toasted pecans. Let the mixture sit for a week, strain.

1 part brandy

1 part creme de menthe

Stir together, top with whipped cream and sprinkles.
