octopi intelligence is genuinely frightening to me because while we've seen them problem solve, solve puzzles, and show things like pattern recognition, their phylum (mollusca) is still very, VERY far from the vertebrates that we are used to seeing intelligence in - what this suggests is that the creation of a type of brain capable of what we think of as 'intelligence' has possibly evolved twice, independently, in two DRASTICALLY different looking structures from two DRASTICALLY different basal forms. (octopi/cuttlefish/squid eyes are another good example of this - they have vision on par with what we think of with vertebrate sight, but have evolved from a totally different root, they're analogous structures. but analogous structures with such a high level of sophistication is just bonkers to me). its WILD
