Sasha (Bratz x Sanrio and others concepts)

In my disgust but lack of surprise over Sasha’s preemptive exclusion then subsequent inclusion of the hello kitty x Bratz collab after major backlash, I decided to channel it into something positive- concepts for Sasha in some cute stuff. 

My favorite ones are chococat and Miffy, I really like the jean skirt and the bunny hat. Ironically the hello kitty one gave me trouble due to the color placement.  Sasha and jade were always my favorite Bratz , I used to watch the shows and I think I owned a doll or two, but I tabs on them for years. Still love the fits she’s in. We may never see her in anything like these fits (I’m not a doll designer either) but it’s nice to imagine her in them.  ———

BRATZ AND RACISM : As a newer Bratz fan, I understood very quickly that Bratz had a history of racism. I was very sad to witness in real time that it definitely wasn’t over ! In the last few weeks, the newest collaboration of Bratz with Hello Kitty has dropped three dolls, excluding one of the main four from the original Bratz line. Guess who was excluded ? Sasha. The black doll. The other three, Cloe, Yasmin and Jade, released. I was so enraged to notice that, even after 24 years, racists still seem to have a bright future ahead of them ! It’s not the first time Bratz has solely excluded the black character from a line ! It’s not the first time Bratz has whitewashed darker skinned characters’ artworks either ! The most obvious example <I can think of right now is the “Pretty N’ Punk” line from which Sasha was excluded FOR NO VALID REASON until the line got reproductions in 2023 : only then did they make a Sasha doll to include into the lineup !

However, I must say that, as a new Bratz fan, I am SO proud to have noticed the vehement reactions in real time against the exclusion of Sasha in the Hello Kitty collaboration ! I am so proud that, this time around, fans of the brand didn’t let it slide ! If Bratz didn’t have any racist intent, then why exclude ONLY Sasha ? Do what you did with the Mowalola or GCDS collabs : release 2 dolls and exclude the others (Felicia isn’t part of the main four but you get the point) ! The thing with the HK collab is that WE KNOW IT WAS A RACIST DECISION BECAUSE WHY ELSE WOULD THEY EXCLUDE SASHA ONLY IF IT’S NOT FOR HER SKIN COLOUR ?

Now, here is what happened : Bratz reacted. They spoke up on their Instagram account, saying that Sasha was to eventually be part of the lineup (a blatant lie) and that she would be released soon. Even though I’m happy to hear it, it genuinely feels like the brand is just mocking us : this initial decision to exclude the black doll YET AGAIN is so telling ! It should’ve never happened in the first place ! This is telling me that racists still have enough influence to make such decisions in the big 2025 and it’s revolting and alarming !

Keep in mind that there is no “core 3” for Bratz. Sasha IS part of the core 4 and it’s either that or nothing !

they’re here! i wasn’t going to get these girls because they are simply not worth their price point imo, actually, i have a lot of opinions to share about this line:

$35- No poster, No second outfit, No extra accessories

i understand the hype is Hello Kitty herself, but MGA, wtf? way to mess up every collab they get! you’re telling me you FINALLY collab with Sanrio, and create the most basic playline and call it “limited collectors” yeah no, i have eyes and you can fuck right off.

no poster for the “iconic” collab? would it had killed them to do a cute little HK style shoot and give us some posters?

the outfit…okay, i will say i love the clothes they come with. but no second outfit for $35 and a HK collab? the shoes? they couldn’t be bothered to give us some color, some details, little chains, charms, some LIFE!?? also, I’M SO TIRED OF THESE PLASTIC BAGS!! 🤬

that was the one thing that made me LOVE Bratz and become an adult collector, the amount of detail they put into their lines. well, that was MGA of the past, as clearly they don’t care about the products they put out anymore.

also, WHERE TF ARE MY HK EARRINGS? NECKLACE/CHOKER? BRACELETS?!? have they seen what us DIY collectors have come up with? they couldn’t take a page or two from the creatives in this community?

AND LAST BUT MOST DEFINITELY NOT LEAST (u already know where this is going..) NO SASHA IN A CORE FOUR COLLAB???

i have no words about that one. i understand they are “trying to fix it”, but that’s just it, there shouldn’t had been any problem to fix, she should’ve been a part of it from the start!!

ugh, after reading all of this you’re probably wondering why i even got these two, Yasmin is meant to be a xmas gift to my little one (tho i later found out she like Cloe the best from this collab..), and Jade for me, ofc. with the sale on target i got them for a little over $25, which is not bad at all but still, i wish they would’ve executed this collab with care.

also my Jade is slightly wonky-mouthed, i would’ve returned her but i didn’t notice until i freed her, so i have to fix her up at some point.

edit: we get a plain as paper white stand…couldn’t even Hello Kitty-fy the stand! make it her bow or her head shape. they had all the potential and none of the effort to realize said potential.

TLDR: MGA makes me wish i didn’t love Bratz as much as i do.
