I didn’t vote this year and probably won’t next year. 🤷🏼♀️ I just don’t care anymore. Ashura will never get in and I don’t remember who I was voting for aside from him. OH MY REMAINING SECOND GEN HUSBAND FROM AWAKENING UHH LAURENT.
Brave Lucina
The gentleman with the lighter coloured turban is my Nana-Ji (mother’s father), The Late Sardar Nazar Singh. He fought in the Second World War as part of the 19th Indian Infantry Brigade (8th division) which was the first division to lead the Italian campaign in Monte Cassino Italy. Not long after this photo was taken he was captured and taken as a prisoner of war in Italy. He eventually made it home and lived the rest of his life as a respected physical education teacher before passing away in Birmingham UK (2006). Despite all of the horrors he saw in war he was never a stern or hardened man, he had a thunderous laugh and his eyes would light up when one of the lads (and there were many) would come to visit him for tea and a chat. He sent his youngest daughter to study in college during a time where not many in the village would think to do so, the charisma and ability that decision inspired is reflected in my mum and my siblings today. It’s hard not to swell with pride when you’re related to a man like my Nana, but Nazar Singh and the men of this unit are for all of us, we can bask in their glory, measure our pain against their plight and learn to be small heroes within our own lives too. ❤️ p.s I love sgt. Loughlin’s description: ‘Bearded Warriors of the Punjab’ that’s exactly what he was and then some...
