Surprise THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS (2018) Grade: C-
Mostly boring, the gags were old. I could see it being a cult classic w really young ones. Surprise to see Eli Roth was the director.

I’m surprised Kenny is still played by Braxton. Before they started filming I wasn’t sure if he was coming back cause Kenny was offscreen quite a bit during S2. They made it work but sometimes it would be weird when all the kids were playing or eating breakfast together and Kenny was the only one missing. I’m glad he wasn’t recasted though. I swear when the S1 kids were recasted it took me the longest to realize it wasn’t just Jane they changed because I never payed attention to any of them.
Yeah, it’s funny - it looks like Braxton’s booked quite a bit of other work lately which could be a part of that? Which is kind of interesting, because I mean no disrespect, of course, but I feel like he’s one of the weaker child actors on the show. That said, Lidya and Isaiah both get much meatier storylines than Braxton does which could be a part of that too.
And really, none of the Boland kids get much in the way of storylines. I think the show doesn’t really know what to do with the younger kids to be honest - and that includes all Beth’s non-Kenny-shaped kids, and Harry Hill as well. I hope that changes in S3 - I actually really enjoy seeing Beth, Ruby and Annie’s unique dynamics with their children, and some of my favourite eps have been based around that. I know it’s a controversial opinion, but The Dubby is one of my favourite episodes, and I actually really enjoyed Annie and Sadie’s shifting relationship in S2 too.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
