Ruth de Souza (1921-2019), first black woman to perform at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro and the first Brazilian black actress to be selected for the prize of best actress for the Venice International Film Festival in 1954.
Zezé Motta (1944), actress and singer with an extensive discography and television/cinema performances. She received the prize of best actress in the Festival de Gramado for her role as Xica da Silva in the 1976 movie. Spokesperson for political black interests, specially those of black women.
Léa Garcia (1933-2023), national and international actress that performed in 1959's Oscar winning Black Orpheus as Serafina. With her extensive theater and television performance, she received many national awards and the honors as a symbol of national artistic resistance.
