None of their alarms had gone off that morning. That was the first sign that, a month into their stay at Beacon, Qrow’s semblance refused to be suppressed, and it was vengeful that he’d even tried.
In the mad scramble to not be late to class, Summer had dumped coffee all over the paper she’d spent several all nighters trying to finish, and Qrow knew they were in for it.
Next, the projector shorted out during their first class of the day, ruining any hope of having an easy day of watching films for lecture.Tiny, unfortunate incidents just kept happening: a trip here, a misfire of a weapon there... Qrow could feel his heart rate climbing. He knew enough about his semblance to know that the more he focused on it, the worse things were going to get. But he couldnt help but stress about it. What if they got found out because he couldnt keep things together?
Lunch was when things got bad. Someone hadnt maintained a chandelier in the dining hall. It had been hanging by a rusty link, and gravity had finally won its battle of attrition when Qrow walked, giving it a little extra oomph. Qrow heard the screams, he heard the crash behind him, and before he quite realized it, had taken off running towards the grounds without waiting to see if anyone had gotten hurt. Someone, probably Raven, had yelled after him to stay put, but he didnt pay her any attention. He had to get away from the other students and the teachers before… Before something worse happened.
Out on the far reaches of campus, Qrow found a tree, and swung himself up so he could perch in the branches, back against the trunk and fingers digging into the bark of the branch he was straddling. It was so hard to breath - they were going to get found out! There was no way they werent going to put together the fact that everywhere Qrow went bad things followed. The boy was trembling like a leaf, and tears gathered in the corners of his eyes, obscuring his vision.
He hadnt even noticed he’d been followed outside, or that anyone had seen him up here, hidden among the leaves.
