"Arkestra--out-there jazzer Sun Ra’s funkafied concept of the stuffy classical orchestra.” When we combine the two concepts, you have the Breakestra or in other words an orchestra that plays breaks." “The Breakestra should become a class or a 4-year graduate program for funk musicians. Playing with the Breakestra is a great way to get a degree in funk,” explains longtime keyboardist Carlos Guaico. Their vast repertoire spans eras of music and covers, to the point where keeping up is leaps and bounds is above the rest. "A Breakestra show is about dancing & getting your wig flipped back by a non stop throwdown of eight folks on stage getting loose & flexing some soulful skills over some serious funk grooves both original and deeper covers drawn from the vault of Miles music’s vast vault of funk." Breakestra always knew how to ride a groove—and so does my phonograph needle! After years of searching IRL, I gave up and found this classic side on eBay for a mere $6. I think the warping may be my own fault; I used a hairdryer to get a 20-year-old price sticker off the label. Even so, “Getcho Soul Togetha Part II” is still as delicious as ever!
