Ian smiled as he was taken in for an unexpectedly tight hug. He tried his best to return the gesture with the little spine he had left, but still enjoying wholeheartedly the chance of seeing his long time friend in person.
“Thought I might be able to swing by and surprise you” he said adjusting his glasses, “was taking courses abroad and realized ‘hey, doesn’t Ellie live around here?’ And the rest is history!”
“So! How’s journalism going?”
Testing, Testing
( starter with @breakingnxws )
The Aetheric Current Reader, which was currently partially disassembled, needed some adjusting. Having tried to pick up a signal from a linkpearl on another continent, R'tahn and his device had instead gotten something a little... out of intended range. Now, perhaps, with some tweaks to the design, he could actually get the invention to work as intended.
Not that he was complaining overmuch, but they really needed communications the Garleans couldn't disrupt. Especially now that the Empire would be looking to retaliate for their losses in Doma and Ala Mhigo.
A carefully-arranged matrix of elemental crystals pulsed softly inside the metal housing of the console. Ungloved, R'tahn's fingers poked gently at a few of the koppranickel wires connecting them. No energy currently flowed through them, but something with how they were arranged had drastically altered the performance of the device.
Frowning, the miqo'te sat back, flicked an ear in annoyance, and put his gloves back on. He slotted a ceruleum tank into its place on the Reader, flicked a switch, and adjusted his goggles. The crystals' glow intensified, and after studying it for a moment, he nodded. With a clang, he replaced the panel he had removed earlier, and adjusted a dial on the console.
“Okay... now if this fix worked, I should be able to contact Elise over in Doma....” he muttered to himself. He adjusted an antenna, took a deep breath, and laid his hand over the pearl panel inlaid on the top of the invention.
“Calling Elise, this is R'tahn. Unscheduled test in progress. Respond if you can hear me.”
Unfortunately for R'tahn, he had not picked up on the linkpearl of another Free Company officer, but someone else entirely unexpected.
