Honestly, I think #straightculture thinks girls with C-D cups are fat/shallow/stupid. What about busty girls? any love for them? (pls, I feel so ugly cuz I don't have a flat chest, despite only being

People are honestly so judgmental of any bodies that are perceived as female and that are the body of a female/feminine person. (Honestly people are judgy of most bodies probably.) Even if someone has the “ideal” body type, they’ll be judged as being shallow and be objectified.

But absolutely, busty girls deserve so much love and positivity! There’s nothing wrong with your chest. C-cup and up is absolutely valid and it doesn’t mean you’re shallow or anything, and anyone who judges busty girls is the shallow one. I’m sorry you’ve had to feel bad because of this, but I promise there’s nothing wrong with your chest.

Basically, no matter what size your chest is we support you here. (This also applies to any trans people who are uncomfortable with their chests. You have support and love. I understand that chest dysphoria is obviously a different subject though so I try to be cautious about lumping those experiences together.) But yeah, we love and support all body types here. <3

A note on sizing for chest binders.

Hello, friends.

I’m going to talk about breast tissue now. Feel free to breeze on past if that’s not what you’re into reading about today.

(Hokay.) So. Vermont just passed a law requiring mammogram providers to tell their patients about their breast density. It’s the 28th state to do this. I have a series of complicated feelings about healthcare procedures being micromanaged by law thanks to Breast Cancer Activism(TM), but that’s neither here nor there. 

The point is, by a number of different methods, breast tissue can be measured for density. Roughly speaking, the greater the ratio of gland tissue to fat, the more dense. Fat is squishier. Variation across humans in this ratio is pretty wide. (The arbitrary medical standard for ‘dense breasts’ currently covers about 40% of people with breasts, but whatever.)

What does that mean for those of us who bind?

Let’s say, hypothetically, I get two binder orders in a week with the same measurements: 40″ underbust and 45″ bust. (For example.) Here’s two people who would each wear a 40DD bra, if they wore bras, and who would expect to get the same size binder. And in fact, I’ll send them two binders of the same size.

In this hypothetical, I am very lucky, and Customer A writes me back. “It fits! Thank you!” And attach a happy selfie, giving us the warm fuzzies in our hearts.

Customer B also writes back. “Wow, this is way too loose! I’m shifting around in it every time I move around. Can you tighten it?” And they mail it back to us, confirming that their measurements haven’t changed.

What? What happened? Well, most likely, Customer A and Customer B have different breast density. Customer A probably has denser breasts. Customer B is finding that a squishier chest needs a tighter binder. So we take the sides in and send their binder back out, content in the knowledge that humans are different and have different needs. Even ones with the same measurements.

Moral of the story: If at first your binder doesn’t fit, don’t panic. Let us refit it. Your binder isn’t perfect for you yet, and it’s nobody’s fault - we just can’t account for breast density at this distance. 

Other moral: any binder sizing chart that takes one measurement and spits out your size has even odds of being wrong about it, one way or another. Binder shopping is a process! We hope to make the results worth it.
