my partner @gridelincarver likes to jumpscare me and a friend by turning our conversations into pesterlogs as theyre happening with zero edits to the text and zero warning
bren's idiotproof ice cream recipe
Three parts heavy whipping cream, one part milk, one part sweeteners, and a pinch of salt. Add flavorings now! (Bren likes vanilla and coffee.) Simmer until the sweeteners and salt have dissolved. Churn according to ice cream machine instructions.
Once the ice cream is churned, add mix-ins! (Bren likes chocolate pieces or butterscotch pieces.) Simply pour them into the bowl with the freshly churned ice cream and fold them in with a spatula.
-
Three parts heavy whipping cream. You've done this a million times, Brendan. You're not gonna fuck it up now. One part milk. One part sweeteners; half liquid, half solid, for a creamier texture! (Bren likes agave syrup and turbinado sugar.) A pinch of table salt. Table salt. It's just table salt, Bren, you checked it twelve times. Simmer and churn.
Once the ice cream is churned, you don't mix anything in, because of the risk of contaminants. Listen, there's no reason to be reckless.
-
Three parts heavy whipping cream, one part milk, one part sweeteners. All it would take is one mistake for all of this to come crashing down. One little slip up. A pinch of salt. You don't taste the salt this time. It's salt. Don't check the salt again. Simmer and churn.
Once the ice cream is churned, add chocolate chips, because your coworkers missed them last week.
-
Checking the salt is annoying, okay? But you have to make sure it's not- okay, so you have an ice cream machine that still needs rock salt mixed in with the ice to keep it all frozen during churning. It's a little outdated, but there's no reason to fix what ain't broken.
Except. Rock salt. Bren keeps the bag completely separate from cooking supplies, constantly washes her tools thoroughly. There's no reason for rock salt to end up in the ice cream if she's using the ice cream machine correctly.
But one mistake.
-
Three parts heavy whipping cream. Check the salt again, just in case you misread the last time. One part milk and check the salt to make sure it's not rock salt. One part sweeteners. Is the sugar safe? Why wouldn't it be, Bren. We're making plain ice cream today with no flavorings. Simmer and churn.
No mix-ins.
-
Bren does not check the salt today. They make ice cream without checking the salt once.
Nothing happens.
-
Bren makes a lot of ice cream. It is their job, after all. It should be rote by now.
Pinch of salt. They don't check it.
Move the ice cream to the canister. Don't check it.
-
They're exonerated. It wasn't their fault. Legally.
They should have checked the salt.
that's awesome that you're gonna be learning to code this semester! do you know what language(s) you'll be using?
i think c and java? the syllabus was unclear but the prof said we’re gonna be using something called coffeescript too
