Baal, Brecht, Breuker: Evelyn Roe I / Heeft Een Meisje Blanke Dijen
A fantastic slice of Weimar-era German musical theatre, as refracted through a 1970s lens. Someone else's words:
This track is taken from an album that "contains music written by Dutch composer/bandleader Willem Breuker for two stage productions: Bertold Brecht's Baal and Peter Handke's Rit over het Bodenmeer. Recorded in 1973-1974, right around the time of the formulation of his highly successful Kollektief, it represents some of his finest music for theatre, and points in the direction that the Kollektief would take in years to come. [...] It's a superb band, including composer Louis Andriessen on keyboards and longtime associate drummer Han Bennink, whose hilarious tap dance on "Evelyn Roe" is one of the disc's many highlights."-Brian Olewnick/AMG
