                ❛  A  NIGHTMARE?  ❜  indignation  thick  in  his  tone.  clearly  he’d  been  insulted  by  the  trivialization.  ❛  if  it  was  just  a  nightmare,  explain  this,  FATHER!  ❜    a  hand,  covered  in  a  sticky,  sickeningly-sweet  reddish  goop,  thrusts  forward.  obviously  some  kind  of  fruit  filling.  evidently  he’d  been  eating  in  bed  again.

It had been one of his harder weeks. The fact that he’d been lightening up on the substance use did nothing to quell the fact that he still had no income and no food in his mouth.

So, he sat begging outside some restaurant, seated near the opening to the alley with a small tupperware container with exactly 52 cents in it — Five dimes and two pennies.

A few complaints about the beggar were sure to come in soon.
