Staying Dead ~ Steve Tanham Following my exploration of the I Ching in the recent series of blogs, (list below), I’ve begun to examine its guidance from the perspective of what I know to be true after a lifetime’s immersion in the mystical arts.

Deva, So how does one find “authenticity”. I recommend informal meditation. What we generally call “me time”-- to find that spot, that quiet space, and just sit, just sit. Watch your thoughts come and go (talking about Michelangelo?) without becoming hung up on any of them, until you feel a feeling of repose. Do this daily (if you can).
Besides letting the static out of your mind, it is also important to feed your head some good thoughts. Find something that resonates with you. I like the Tao Te Ching of Lao Tze. There are many good translations. For example, Brian Browne Walker’s.
The Art of War...
The App of War! A new rendition of The Art of War brings Brian Browne Walker's clear voice to these time honored teachings.
Sun Tzu would think this app was a righteous strategy.

Hexagram 11 - Tai
PEACE Heaven exists on earth for those who maintain correct thoughts and actions. This hexagram signifies a time similar to spring: there is a strong flow of energy, and harmony and prosperity are the reward of those who correctly balance their higher and lower natures. It is by remaining aware of our inferior self while insuring that the superior self governs our conduct that we arrive in a state of peace. See yourself as a young tree now. The ground around you is fertile; sun and water and wind are plentiful. By maintaining your focus on moving upward toward light, clarity, and purity you can reach great heights. If you become entangled in inferior things, you will not enjoy the full benefit of this gracious hour. Stay balanced, innocent, and correct, and good fortune is assured.
Hexagram 9 - Hsiao Ch'u
THE TAMING POWER OF THE SMALL
You are temporarily restrained. It is a time for taking small steps.
This hexagram signifies a time when darkness has temporarily enveloped the light. The Creative power is present in the background, however, and will come forward in time. Your responsibility in this moment is to accept restraints quietly and remain content with taking small steps.
The obstacles to success can only be removed now by gentle measures. Inside yourself, be focused and determined. On the outside, nonaction, adaptability, neutrality, and tolerance are the order of the day. Ambitious behavior is to be avoided; think of planting seeds rather than harvesting fruit.
Do not forget that the inferior elements within yourself, others, and the time itself may only be restrained now—not fully removed. Do not be tempted into any engagement which will serve to unbalance you. Instead, hold quietly to the center and take small steps until the Higher Power has tamed the obstacles in your way.
Whenever we fall into an negative states such as judgment, anger, fear, anxiety, or desire, are added to become structured and inflexible. As long as remain in this condition we cannot receive the assistance of the Higher Power. Therefore, if we wish for a return of good fortune now we must take steps to dissolve the hardness.
