Meet the PGC Staff - Brian Engel

The next installment in our Meet the Staff series features our Studio Coordinator, Brian Engel.

Brian came to PGC in 2007, like Billy, for our technical apprentice program. He soon rose in the ranks to full time Studio Technician, and now Studio Coordinator.

Hope you enjoy learning a bit about him and seeing some of his incredible artwork!

Where are you from?

Silver City, NM

How did you get into glass?

I was introduced to glass by a friend who had a small lampworking studio while I was in Forestry school at Western New Mexico University.

Who and/or what informs/influences your work?

I dont really look to other artists for inspiration as much as I should, but lately I really enjoy going through Livio Sequso's sketches. Most of my work is influenced by imagination, geologic features and topographic maps.

Describe your favorite piece you’ve made.

I would have to say that I haven't made my favorite piece yet, but I am really enjoy working through the progressions of my new series of work.

If you have six months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with the time?

I would travel to the far reaches of Mongolia to ride horseback with the semi nomadic Kazakh tribe to learn the skills of The Golden Eagle Hunters.

When you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do with it?

Practice levitating.
