The colours of Manor Black
Written by @cullenbunn and @brihurtt; illustrated by @mistertylercrook (first arc) and Brian Hurtt (Fire in the Blood); colours by Tyler Crook. I loved the colours in the first arc (top four rows in the image), the way the unmagical world was desaturated, the way each magic has its own colour identity that can take over a scene or sit quietly in the background. The second arc, Fire in the Blood (bottom four rows in the image), took all those concepts and developed them. It has flashbacks in greyscale, though these scenes retain the colours of the various magics. Even at this scale, you can see the shape of the conflict, the shifts in power, and when we’re in the past or the present. It’s masterfully done.
