It was late afternoon and the sky was bathed in deep reds and oranges that created a dazzling backdrop against the campus buildings of the Siang Institute of Circumstance. The grounds were crowded with people watching the shows the priests were putting on and visiting the library along with other parts of the institute. Their smiles earlier had been strained, as if the people of the city were unsure if they could still have fun, but after a few hours and with the help of a modest stream of alcohol, the mood had lightened. Thalra watched as priests scribed their predictions in the air with glowing illusory script, creating pictures and symbols, some of their voices booming with magical influence as they vied for the people’s attentions.
Thalra had grown bored of the whole thing an hour ago and no amount of ciders or ale would cure her of that. She sauntered up behind one of the priests who had just finished reading a story to a small gathering of people, and as they dispersed she put on her most inviting smile and let magic flow into her words. “That was such a lovely story, but I couldn’t help but notice that other man over there, the one giving that little lecture-“ she pointed over to a very serious half-orc man who was in the middle of a heated presentation of some prophecy about the crop rotation for this year. “was staring at you the whole time like he wanted you to go right over there and give an interpretive dance to go along with his presentation. I think you should go do that right now.”
The magic took hold, and Thalra saw the man’s eyes cloud over as the Suggestion spell compelled him to turn and walk over to the half-orc. He stood right beside him, much to the half-orc’s confusion, and began moving his limbs like pinwheels, shaking and bending at the waste, then waving his arms back and forth above his head all with the calmest, most peaceful expression on his face. Thalra grinned, watching, until she felt a pair of eyes on her and looked in that direction to see who had caught her.
