Chapter 2: Mum

Renn walked upstairs, slumped over slightly as his mum walked into the hall from the kitchen. “Hello hunny,” she said smiling. “Oh, hey mum, didn’t think you’d be home this early.” Said Renn, feeling tired. “Oh well, work let me off early, although, I’ll be going out later until about 1:00am, or something with friends, are you okay on your own?” His mum asked, sounding a little worried. “Trust me mum, I’m seventeen, I think I know not to burn down the house” He says, laughing a little. His mum nods, smiling and walking back into the kitchen to resume making dinner.

He walked into his room, closing the door after him, and throwing his bag onto the bed. “This bloody uniform..” he mumbled to himself, itching his arm slightly, as he changed into a plain black t-shirt and blue jeans. He looked at himself in the mirror, pushing his hair into place. He turned around, looking at his bag, ‘Thank God I didn’t get homework...to lazy for that’ he thought to himself, laughing slightly as he did. “Hunny, dinner!” He heard his mum shout from the kitchen down stairs. He smiled at the thought of food. Renn ran downstairs. “Set the table dear, will you?” His mum asked as she put the dinner on the plates. He nodded, stood up, and set the table as his mum liked.

“Right, I’m off, don’t hesitate to call if something happens, ill be coming home in a taxi anyway and Catherine is picking me up anyway” his mum said as she neared the front door. “Bye mum” Renn said, smiling as he gave his mum a kiss on the cheek and as she walked out, locked the door from the inside. He watched her hop into her friend’s car and off they drove.

Renn looked at the clock. It had been three hours since his mum had left and was now 10:34pm. Cáitlín (Kaw-tch-leen) was a good mother. She was a single parent since Renn was only twelve. His father had died in a car accident. She worked hard, and had good friends by her side. and Renn was a good kid. He made sure that Cáitlín was always okay and always helped out around the house.

Renn looked at his laptop and just stared at the screen blankly. “What to look up..” he mumbled to himself. He decided to search his school, St. Patts of Tipperary, Ireland. (The story is based in Ireland) As he found the school website, he looked through the school’s photo gallery. There was a picture of his year, 5th Year (Irish readers, you’ll understand haha, and I’m an Irish writer so that’s how I know this) There was the girl with the nose piercing and purple hair, and next to her was a guy he say at the back of the classroom with shaggy hair that hung over his eyes, with a sort of butterscotch colour to it. He looked quite dull by his nonchalant expression.

Renn shut down his laptop, and stripped down till he was in his boxers and then hopped into bed, as he started to think about the weekend ahead.
