these    killings    are    ritualistic    in    their    nature,    and    even    if    the    intention    hadn’t    been    to    summon    a    demon,    they’ve    certainly    gotten    its    attention.    to    be    a    demon    is    to    starve    --------------    not    a    day    goes    by    where    it    has    not    been    ravenous    and    hungry,    stalking    its    next    meal.    but    this    is    not    merely    a    meal    :    this    is    a    feast,    a    banquet    !    there    must    be    at    least    a    hundred    souls    here,    and    this    particular    demon    has    never    been    more    pleased.

there’s    the    deafening    sound    of    snapping    wood    as    the    ceiling    caves    in    and    the    bodies    fall    to    the    floor,    dust    rising    in    the    air    before    slowly    beginning    to    settle.    for    a    brief    moment,    there    is    silence.    but    then,    blood    seems    to    drain    from    the    corpses    and    pools    together    before    taking    form    and    rising    -------------    becoming    a    terrifying    horned    beast    of    blood    and    bone.    

it    is    not    hungry    anymore.    and    that    feeling    of    being    full,    of    being    SATED,    is    something    it    never    thought    it    would    experience.    it    looks    around    the    gym    with    its    many    eyes    before    moving    forwards,    congealing    blood    leaving    a    black    trail    behind    it    until    it    finds    him.    

it    is    a    giant    figure    and    it    towers    over    him,    peering    down    curiously.    this    is    the    man    that    had    given    it    the    souls,    isn’t    it    ?    it    supposes    it    ought    to    thank    him.    a    clawed    red    hand    reaches    down,    offering    itself    to    help    him    up    from    the    rubble.    and    then,    in    a    low    voice    like    crushed    glass    :

❝    you    have    called    me    here.    one    body    would    have    been    enough    to    garner    my    attention,    and    yet    HERE    YOU    ARE.    ❞

there’s    a    laugh    from    eddie    and    he    bends    down,    and    grell’s    arms    drape    themselves    over    his    shoulders,    pulling    him    closer    as    she    shifts    in    her    chair.    god,    he’s    still    so    tall,    way    too    tall.    but    she    kisses    him    anyway,    trying    not    to    smile    too    much.    (    god,    she    is    so    very    fond    of    him.    )
