There are some preview images coming out for The Art of Avatar Fire and Ash book and there are so many cool stuff there but I'm most fascinated by this image as that's likely the Betabridge still under construction. Unfortunately, even this tells us nothing about its purpose.

Betabridge was something were were supposed to see in Fire and Ash coming online. We saw it in the leaked script pages and everything else in those came about. But Betabridge was completely cut out and it just makes me even more curious about what it's supposed to be.

Looking at it in this concept art I want to agree with people who theorized that this will be a base to a space elevator. I could imagine we see its anchor points. Earlier art of Bridgehead shows it to us at earlier stage of construction. We can see it's gigantic and separated from the main city and both of these would make sense for a space elevator anchor site.

However, that leaked script has it come online with a brilliant light and a shockwave. It is described as a combination of oil rig and a nuclear reactor. None of this sounds like space elevator. Space elevator would need a line first. And this is not how you get it to work.

So what else can it be. I saw ideas that it will be a teleportation hub but that seems like to out there for Avatar which tries to stick to more realistic near future sci-fi. I've heard a machine to change the atmosphere but that would be too small and also how would humans deal with all the detritus from dead animals and plants and the climate change.

Not knowing is going to bother me the whole time till next movie happens.

Spider refuses to run, even as Quaritch tries to pull him out of the burning base. All he cares about is getting back to free Jake. When he finally finds him, Jake is on his knees in the wreckage. A short lil angst taking place during an alternative AFAA when Neytiri attacked Bridgehead. 470 words. Masterlist. Tag list. Warning: Major character death

Spider wouldn’t give Quaritch a chance to hold his grip. Throwing limbs about, kicking off the ground and off of Quaritch to try and force himself apart. The man was like vines, every time he broke one another would appear. Spider hissed up a storm and nashed his teeth at him whenever an arm got too close to his face.

The construction suit came up, cinching at his neck as he was scruffed. They were pulled in the opposite direction of the buildings. The words of leaving registering a second later. Spider struggled harder.

“No! M’NOT-” He yelled through a muffle, kicking out and swinging wildly like a feral cat on a leash. A tornado in the eye of a storm. Finding a break in the scruffing to yell at him again.

“I’m not leaving without Jake! Let me go!” A final plead, “Please! He needs my help!”

"You're a little shit you know that?"

Breaking the grip he made a run for it. Darting away as fast as his little legs could carry him. Part of a fire exploded out from one of the fuel lines causing Spider to fall back to avoid getting licked by the flames.

Scrambling, he looked up to see Quaritch right there, towering over him. Still following him.

His eyes narrowed but when he was lifted again he wasn’t dragged in any direction.

“Come on!” he barked impatiently, breaking out in another run towards the cell.

Slowing his roll when he saw the empty destroyed cell. More gunfire, Spider broke into a run towards that. Keeping to the shadows, trying to stay out of sight.

He didn’t look back to see if Quaritch followed.

All he cared about was getting to Jake.

When he found him. His feet slowed to a stop. Watching the orange jumpsuit on his knees by the dead ikran sprawled out. Sa’ata had been gunned down. Neytiri’s limp body dragged from the carcass and pulled up into Jake’s arms to hold. His body shook but no sound came from him.

A discarded gun lay off to his side. Plenty of dead enemies around him but it was only a matter of time before more would come.

Jake wasn’t moving. Spider’s heart lurched.

He wasn’t leaving. So lost in his own grief he’d lost any fight he had left in him.

Spider ran to him. Throwing himself around his back to hug him tight. Use his body as a shield to protect him should more of the RDA or Mangkwan show up.

All while Quaritch looked on.

Caught between helping or ending it.

Not while his son was there. With a frustrated hiss in his throat, he pitched a call to Cupcake and jogged toward his Ikran. Flying her in close to Jake and the boy.

“Get the hell on. That’s an order.” He barked.

Day 100 (continued)

One week earlier, at Hellsgate:

There was a cubby not far from the entrance of ConMod that he'd stuffed himself into so he could be alone with this moment. The pad came to life in his trembling hands once he could calm down enough to get the dang data stick in the right way. Apparently he'd been holding his breath without realizing, the the air coming in a gasp when his mom's face lit up the screen.

"Hey, Rick." she started, smiling a little. "If you're getting this message, well…" She ran her hand through her hair, sighing, "things probably didn't go too great out there for me. I don't want you to blame yourself, though. I want to go. I want to make this place safer, for our son."

Spider sat, captivated, drinking in every word.

"I know this isn't what you wanted, I know I didn't give you a choice. You made yourself very clear about how you felt and I respect that. I've always respected that about you." her voice wavered and she cleared her throat, "But I want you to know, you're still one of the biggest assholes I've ever met, and honestly, that's saying something!" she laughed, her humor lit eyes going distant for a moment as if she was lost in a memory, smiling to herself. No picture or video had ever done her justice until now. She was the most beautiful person Spider had ever seen.

"The truth is Ricky, I really do love you." she was looking directly into the camera now, and Spider felt his heart skip. "I've loved you for a long time. You work hard, you look out for your people, you see the mission through. I think that's why I couldn't give him up when I found out. I wanted to have our child. I wanted to see what sort of a person we'd make together." her eyes shimmered with emotion.

"I'm not asking you to take over for me, not if you don't want to, but I am asking this: please don't abandon him out here. You're all he has now. Look out for him." she swiped away building tears, looking at the ceiling to compose herself. Spider's own eyes welled up, his chest constricting.

"And for God's sake, don't let him join up! I will haunt your ass, I swear to you." she laughed again, sniffling. "I want better for him than what we had." she looked over her shoulder suddenly, then down at her watch.

"It's about go time. Remember what I said." she pulled on a flak vest that was resting on the back of her chair, her words a little rushed. "Look out for him, don't be a dick. He's the best of us, I mean that." the buckles snapped, and she rose, leaning in. "Take care of each other. I love you both." she pressed a kiss to her hand, then touched the lens. The video ended abruptly.

Spider sobbed then, for several minutes. He couldn't help it. The message wasn't intended for him, but somehow, it was everything he needed to hear. He wasn't a shameful accident, he was wanted. His mother genuinely loved that salty old bastard.

Once he pulled himself together, he hit replay.

"Hey, Rick."

Bridgehead to Mune Kifkey Nume Utral

A university where humans learn the ways of the Na'vi and the Na'vi learn about the parts of humanity the RDA tried to erase. The walls had been knocked down by the UN as a show of peace. The Sarentu clan started a tradition of building totems where the walls once stood so other Na'vi know the skypeople there aren't with the RDA.

The science labs is where a Na'vi portal connected to one located in Egypt which is now the main way to travel from Earth to Pandora and vice versa.

This is also where humans undergo genetic therapy to make their bodies compatible with Pandora's environment, including being able to participate in tsaheylu. The only requirement is a contract stating that you will bring no harm to the Na'vi or Pandora. Once students are fluent in the Na'vi language they can live with one of the clans or stay at the university to learn their ways. Some of the human students have begun developing more physical characteristics similar to Na'vi even after they stop genetic therapy leading to speculation of the possibility of shared ancestry between the skypeople and Na'vi. The altered skypeople ride Yerik or Syìl on the ground and for the air either forest Ikran or Narluk after they released an elder that had been captured by the RDA. One of the things Na'vi found surprising about the skypeople is how the keep trying to befriend animals that can easily kill them and that occasionally they succeed.

As a result the wildlife in Mune Kifkey Nume Utral are less likely to run away from or attack Na'vi and humans.

The university was mainly built so that humans can learn from the Na'vi how to repair Earth and make sure groups like the RDA aren't able to cause such harm again.

"An Insider Insight On The 'Great Rebranding' Of Aristasia"; Or, When Was The Last Time You Used Win-Rar?

What a title! But let's get down to it. One of the mysterious archivers from the Aristasian Preservation Project, the one who seemed to gather up the Romantia and Wildfire Club writings, then scan them and pop them on the internet, then pop away forever, has always had a fairly mysterious item in her upload history: a torrent file of a .tar file titled "filianic-resources-collection". Curiosity finally got the better of me so I reached deep into my past to remember how the heck do I torrent files, then, once that was done, I had to remember how to unzip strange files that weren't just .zip that my file browser automatically opens. So, I redownloaded Win-Rar and was quite surprised! I thought this would perhaps be some of the more modern work of the Filianic Studies site, but was quite surprised to see it was a vast collection of Filianic and Aristasian archives from 2013! These are a hodge-podge of text files, pdfs, and files that I don't even know what they are but I have to open them with notepad. Some have been archived already, but much hasn't. While most of them, true to the file title, deal with Filianism, there are a ton of Aristasian archives from what seems like the forums and sites that were available at the time, many of which are long gone and even the Way Back Machine failed to grab. One of the text files that caught my eye was the following:

An insider insight on the "Great Rebranding" of Aristasia Floberg, Kadoria, 5 Culverine 3333 (note: It has been postulated for some time that "Aristasia" wasn't really a feminized re-enactment of the early 20th century but rather they were analogies to the cultures of an all-feminine planet, Sai Herthe. "Aristasia" was a Latinized name for the Raihir Nevcaireni, or the Empire of New Caire, which occupies the western part of the planet's principal continent.) In prior to the official inauguration of the Operation Bridgehead, the "Aristasians" were unilaterally adopting the cultures of New Caire and expressing their loyalty to Her Imperial Highness Celestia III, the empress regnant of New Caire. To accomplish this end, they found it convenient to liken the earthly (tellurian) decades of the 1920s through the 1950s to the western nations of New Caire: Vintesse, Trent, Kadoria, and Quirinelle. Additionally, feminine versions of "science fiction" stories and even "lightgames" (Japanese-made videogames) were extensively used to simulate the cultural elements of Novaria, while others looked to Victorian-era Britain for a hint of Arcadia. They adopted the flag of the imperial household (and the flag of the city of Ladyton), mistakenly, as the "flag of Aristasia" without formal approval from the Motherland. They formed themselves as "Aristasia-in-Telluria" while they referred to the homeland as the "Aristasia Pura." Miss Alice Lucy Trent, in her book The Feminine Universe, called this an "Aristasian experiment" in which girls can "re-racinate" themselves by going back to the immediately accessible decades of the pre-Eclipse (the Eclipse loosely being 1965) era. All this changed in the autumn of 2005 when Capt. Thamla Caerlinde, of the Royal Novarian Navy, apparently contacted a small group of Aristasians-in-Telluria and formally brought them under the protection and command of the Navy's Royal Novarian Aethyr Command (RNAC). Capt. Caerlinde in turn deputized two Aristasians-in-Telluria as Novarian naval officers in charge of the tellurian operations. The RNAC then established missions in virtual reality world, namely Second Life grid, which allowed Aristasia to no longer be confined to London. This operation, from the start, was to identify and gather "exile Aristasians." Between 2005 and 2013, therefore, the Aristasian operations and activities were technically under the military rule, though it also possessed somewhat of an ambivalent nature: representing the entire Celestial Empire yet in practice answering solely to Novaria. The establishment of the Royal Protectorate of Chelouranya on 1 Culverine 3333 marks a historic moment. In contrast to the past, the "Aristasians-in-Telluria" are no longer under a military regime but rather established formally as a protectorate of its own, under the formal protection and laws of the Novarian Royal Government (with its own coat-of-arms and territorial anthem as well). While Chelouranya continues to represent elements of various national cultures, it is now officially part of Novaria and its people are formally subjects of the Novarian Crown, rather than merely being "honorary Aristasian subjects" as they were under the Operation Bridgehead. This event marks a great advancement in the status and roles of the Nevcairen outposts on the planet telluria.

This is quite interesting! I have always been in search of a primary account of exactly what happened for Bridgehead, and perhaps this is as close as I can get. This appears to be a formal announcement about the announcement of Chelouranya and exactly what Chelouranya was intended to be, with a bit of a reminder of the goals of Operation Bridgehead.
