So many bittersweet feelings now this set is out, given Marcus Gilbert's recent passing. But it was an absolute honour to write for these characters, and to be part of Marcus' return to the Doctor Who Universe as Ancelyn. He was a joy to work with, and a real gentleman.

On a friend's recommendation, I listened to the first unit episode with Bambera today, and it was pretty good. It had a very generic plot, but did a decent job setting things up. Bambera sometimes sounded a little over-emphatic or over-aggressive, which is certainly in character but I couldn't help feeling like it was a little over-acted. Still, I'm interested enough to keep listening.
15. If you could change one thing about Doctor Who what would it be?
Ohhhh 7 is a tough one!! There's not often been a character that I've been desperate to see more of apart from seeing a particular character and thinking, "Gah, they'd be a great companion!"
Hmmmmm okay SO it's not a recent character and I don't particularly want them popping up in New Who BUT if I could go back in time I would've love to have seen more of Brigadier Bambera from Battlefield and other characters from that story. It really felt like they were setting up a neat little remix on the U.N.I.T. family of the 3rd Doctor's era and I would've loved that.
As for 15 the answer is obviously that I get to be the head writer!!
Oh you wanted an answer other than that? I suppose I'd change the fact that the BBC has become so insanely strict when it comes to stuff like Big Finish now not getting to do the Unbound series with original Doctors. As glad as I am that the BBC cares about Doctor Who, it's also kind of a bummer because it means they are much more aware of what people are doing with the universe and therefore stopping stuff or making it harder for ideas to flourish.
Last year my lovely partner and I were having a classic Who rewatch and at the same time Big Finish announced they were releasing some Brigadier Bambera UNIT audios so I drew this to celebrate!
This story is probably the best of the season, mind you given how bad the season is that's not saying much.
Ace is incompetent and out of character in parts, especially by not knowing her cover identity properly.
The return of Bambera makes the story worthwhile, I'd love to hear her crop up again especially in a better story.
The Numlock's were a decent enough villain... aside from the name. Cartmel's so creative he just looks at a key on his keyboard and thinks: Done! *eyeroll*
Their trick of using language to mislead: see the starting quote, is rather clever.
The Doctor's speech about the future and Raine's dad's death is poignant but a little odd and over the top in places.
And it's silly that they have Raine leave only to come back in the next story anyway. What was the point of it?
Frustrating, but still as I said at the start: the best of a bad bunch.
