FINAL FEEDBACK from FRI 23/10 Alter size of poles creating different heights Look at seafloor - how does it connect? Concrete slab (draw detail and use for section model) Cut through sectional perspective to show structure and detail, dot out the right hand side with annotations Draw in ALL existing conditions - ladders, swimming lane ropes, buoys, people, benches etc How does the water in this area heat up? Think about using solar power, how does it connect? Angle the top of poles to allow sunlight to hit it. Diagram sunlight changes throughout the day. Carry on decking to form a sun protection area for summer. Shade/covering What will the centre seating area look like, what is it made of (draw diagram) Choreography of event - don't use words!! Limit text on poster Diagram of layout - test print font size and line weights again before presentation draw in the ripples in sand and water DETAIL DETAIL DETAIL!
Sectional Perspective Cut through ‘Harvesting channel’ (the last process before reaching the enclosed swimming area.
PROGRAM
Sensory experience: Occupants are sprayed with water from the baths as they walk through a ‘sea’ smelling corridor, their senses are enlightened in preparation for their ‘meal’. Gradual slope, feet are emerged. Harvesting: While their skin is wet they make their way through the harvesting channel, their bodies become covered in seaweed/algae from their knees down. Water level gradually rises. (non stick cushion flooring) The ‘digestion’ pool: Humans enter the seastar feeding ground. As humans enter the water they remove the food from their bodies mimicking the digestion process of a seastars external stomach. Food falls to the floor for seastars to digest. Pool is enclosed, warmer than the rest of the baths, occupants can remain in there or make their way into the baths.
Human client research We spoke to one of the employee’s at the Middle Brighton Baths to find out who it’s clientele is. Swimmers come early morning in the dark with flash lights on their heads and no wet suit, then there are classes of swimmers who come later in the day. They vary, conditions are never the same one day to the next. Swimming events are held at the baths (more often in warmer weather). The water doesn’t alter that much from high tide to low tide at the moment, however the staff are going to keep an eye on it for us during the day and let us know how far it goes out. Human Client Research All year round swimmer (1 hour, 3 times a week in winter, 5 times a week in warmer months) David said he has seen some amazing non human occupants although generally “they do their thing, and we do ours.” Summer can be more difficult to swim as you get a lot more kids. An inflated pontoon is placed in the centre for people to jump off and swim around. David likes to swim out of the baths themselves (gap in fence) into what the locals call “condom alley” due its protection from the elements. He said it is like swimming in a bay. David used to swim at Harold Holt Swimming pool in Malvern but developed an allergy to the chlorine. He says swimming here is like magic. Site visit with @erinuphillinterior
