6. is there a correlation between the muses you like to pick up? something in particular that draws you to a character and makes you want to write them? ( + @forlornwyvernrider )

i’ve mentioned it a few times before, but we all know about my weakness for fighty tough boys with a soft center hahaha. idk what it is about them; the trope just sparks joy, as it were. gets me every time.

i also enjoy the serene, cerebral, elegant dudes. i have no idea why, probably usually because they’re concealing some sort of deep trauma under the placid surface and i like that too hahaha.

character tropes aside though, i don’t know if there’s something that consistently draws me to a character and makes me want to write them. my interest in a character usually stems from like, One Aspect that i latch onto and get excited about digging more deeply into, and then in exploring it in my head, i branch into other Aspects, and then cry because i don’t need more muses. 

but what that One Aspect is will vary from one character to the next. it’s just whatever about that character’s narrative or personality initially caught my attention

“For once, it might be grand to have someone understand.”

They’d been talking over tea when Petra mentioned it- the melancholy that came with not being understood. Mercedes understood. As a child, she’d learned her family’s tongue before the one that Fodlan as a whole spoke, and speaking in such a different manner, words harsher and so much less fluid, some that made sense and others that seemed confusing beyond belief- it was exhausting. Mercedes couldn’t even conceive of it happening now, as old as she was. Her smile turns sympathetic, and she desperately wracks her mind for what little she picked up in her month abroad.

“Speak with me. I am of poor knowing Brigid for speaking, but I am more understand if you are speaking,” she says in her broken comprehension of a language she’d been immersed in for a month, beaming when Petra lights up in turn. “I am to be trying my best to understand!”

They spend the afternoon together, Mercedes slowly gleaning more and more of how the sentence structure worked. It was wonderful.

oh dear oh man I love petra a whole bunch !!! her enthusiasm and determination is something I appreciate a lot, as well as her awareness of the state of her country and It’s relationship with Adrestia. I find her taking idioms and figures of speech literally really cute and the way she speaks is really interesting from a linguistic point of view!! I have literally 0 bad things to say about petra tbh

also I think this is super very absolutely hecking obvious but. Edelgard. on god, I have gushed about her so many times;; honestly, I’m pretty sure I got into fe3h because of her www.. I thought she was really cool from her design and clips I saw from the game but heck. when I played the game I just ‘aaaaaaaaaaaa this character caters to me and too much’ LOL

19. What kind of writing partners do you tend to merge well with? Do you like people who communicate, or more impulsive personalities?

I looove communication. I looove energy. I looove collaboration. I can work with impulsivity and spontaneity much better now than before, due in parts to my greater experience and this muse (god forbid Nyna be spontaneous, lmao; and the spur-of-the moment inspirations and/or swerves keep this form exciting), but I still can’t just start a thread from nothing/canned ideas or completely wing it with zero feedback from my partner, especially if (1) it’s a major interaction or (2) the characters have no substantial reason to interact otherwise. (Though you could argue that too much reason to interact is as much a hindrance, though maybe it’s the canon-ness that stifles my inspiration. Sorry, fellow Eagles...) There’s a reason you nearly never see those one-line starter memes on Caspar’s blog: I tried that with Nyna and Belf, and it just didn’t work for me. I much prefer having unique ideas hit me in the energy of the moment or conversation so that I can send them in a personalized ask-starter--much better than canned ideas, imho. The partners I vibe best with are ones who bring as much energy/ideas to the table as I do, who mirror my energy in OOC chatter, and who go “yes! and...” or even “yes! but...”. Partners who simply go “yes (smile)” or "y’know, I can like, totally work with whatever... (dismissive)” don’t really work well for me, the first because if I wanted to drive the plot myself I’d write fanfic (thankfully this hasn’t been much of an issue in this group), and the second because I can’t work with that much freedom.

Then and now, I just have So! Many! Ideas! that I HAVE to vent them all out to my partner. I also hate disorganization, and will pre-arrange all the ideas I get at any given time in advance. (Some of this is informed by Gaia experiences (see the other end of this paragraph), and may thus accidentally come out as a “My Way or Else” by virtue of me not putting a question mark in there anywhere or so, but please know that anything I spew is always open to improvement or veto.) Anybody who’s RPed with me will have been bombarded at some point like this; the more frequently it happens, the more I like the mun, muse, and/or thread concept. (Quite likely all three end up informing each other. My one thread with Sylvain is a prominent example.) However, the less distanced I was from my fanfic-writing days, the more rigidly expectant I’d be that my ideas would be accepted as The Plot(TM). This mostly applies to my Gaia days, when some of my partners were so passive and “yes (smile)” (or worse) that I felt like I had to carry the whole thing myself. I should hope I’ve gotten better about this. Nowadays, I can work with more freedom than I may have given back on Gaia, and I generally haven’t run into any distressingly passive muns in this group. Everyone has something to bring to the table, which I LOVE.

🌵 = a disliked canon character in my fandom

Ooooof. I don’t really have a lot, actually? Sure, I’m indifferent about some characters! 

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve played Tellius so my memories are kinda fuzzy but I distinctly remember not liking Shinon. I was too young to really appreciate character arcs and such so the poor guy gets the short end of the stick. 

Awakening is a little harder simply because I do adore that game (flaws and all!) though the primary cast can get lost in favor of second gen units. Across all my playthroughs and different army configurations, I never liked Tharja. Her hit rate was awful and I found her obsession with Robin creepy and unnecessary. 

Ah Fatesland. [shakes my fist at you] I don’t like Jakob. 

Last but not least it’s 3H’s turn! Sadly, I’m with a lot of fandom who aren’t huge Leonie fans. I’m so so sorry!! All the interactions with her that I was able to unlock really just centered around how much she looked up to Jeralt and how jealous (?) she is of Byleth for being his kid. I never finished my Golden Deer run gomen so I don’t know if supports change

But hey, I’m all for being proven wrong!!

Reporting to Lady Edelgard | accepting

“Petra.” A note of disappointment has overtaken the faint admiration that ordinarily colors his reports about Brigid’s princess. “Her performance during the Battle of the Eagle and Lion was shameful.”

Other Eagles had lost their matches and yet had been spared Hubert’s more scathing criticisms. Edelgard would notice that something personal lurks beneath his words, icy and spurned. Cold frustration in himself for rare, vulnerable hope misplaced.

“If Brigid’s proud warrior tradition can be so easily bested by a non-combative soldier, then that country has little hope for the future.” He shakes his head and the disappointment boils over to helpless bewilderment. The bite in his tone softens with it.

“Petra spends all of her time studying and training. This tournament offered her the opportunity to spread her wings and soar so that the Imperial nobles might witness her strength. … Not watch her crash so spectacularly.”

A contemplative silence, then a sigh.

“Nothing else for it, I suppose. She is still recovering in the infirmary. I would suggest that you visit her yourself, Lady Edelgard.”

She would not wish to see him, he was sure of it.

21. A memory of the first time they did an activity they love

It’s his first drawing, and Ignatz finds himself staring at the parchment, chewing his lip in debate. It’s not awful -- he thinks, at the very least -- in capturing the visage of Raphael’s little sister. He’s unsure as to why his mind whispered at him to draw for her, to make her happy, yet it’s what felt natural. Raphael swears up and down it looks just like her, really, it’s perfect! 

Ignatz is sure he’s rather biased, as all best friends tend to be, but the encouragement warms his heart either way. He has to believe himself for this, he must. Could such a thing really make someone’s day, make them happier? Before he debates with himself further and winds up with a headache, he presents the drawing to Maya.

Her eyes turn wide, bright as the sky, happiness rising upon her face like the finest sunrise he’s ever witnessed. “Iggy!” A little squeal leaves her as she wraps him in a tight hug (and goodness, she’s strong, just like her brother!) with a delightful laugh. “It’s so good!” 

“You really like it that much?” It’s an effort to move his arms to wiggle them free to return the embrace. “I didn’t think it’d have such an affect on you...”

“Duh!” She answers as if it’s the most obvious one in the world. “You drew me! And I look super pretty!”

“You are pretty, Maya.” He laughs softly, cheeks a little warm at the praise. “I’m glad this made you feel better.” 

Raphael scoops them both up in the hug next, causing Ignatz to squeak as he’s lifted off the ground. “See, Maya? I told ya he’s great! We can always rely on Ignatz!” 

The praise still feels a bit too much for him, but Ignatz smiles at them both anyway, the warmest he’s ever been.

25. A birthday memory

You may never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

On her fifth birthday, Elincia woke to the smell of pancakes and a gentle nudge from Lucia. If she couldn’t have cake for breakfast, pancakes were the next best thing. And they were made by one of the caretakers and Lucia, so that made it extra special~

At the table, she says her thanks for the food, but before she could begin eating, she tilts her head and asks, “Where’s Geoffrey?”

Lucia, already taking a bite of her pancake, snickers. “Oh, he got up super early this morning. I last saw him in the yard, doing who knows what~” She chuckles again, because she knew exactly what he was up to.

And in the next few minutes, in came a dirt covered Geoffrey who was no doubt getting plenty of scoldings from the caretakers. He glares at Lucia, who already wore a huge smarmy look on her face before approaching Elincia with a handful of flowers.

“Um, these are for you, Princess.” He ducks his head and gives it to her. “H-Happy birthday.”

At the sight, she gasps and clasps her hands together before taking them from him. “These are so pretty! Thank you, Geoffrey!”

Not too far into breakfast time, one of the caretakers informed the trio there was a visitor. At this, Elincia looks up and sees her Uncle Renning at the door. Immediately, she gets off the chair and greets him with a hug and a huge smile on her face.

“Your parents send a gift,” he says, patting her head.

“Really?” Her eyes widen and her mouth is agape. Small hands reach up to the sky and she bounces up and down, far too eager and fidgety. A present from her parents was like the icing on a cake, everyone knows that was the best part of an already wonderful treat. “I wanna see, I wanna see!”

“Alright, alright.” Uncle Renning lifts up Elincia and sets her in his lap. He reaches in his pouch and pulls out a couple of small boxes decorated with delicate gold and floral emblems and hands them to her. Meanwhile, Lucia and Geoffrey gather round to see what was going on. Before Elincia can ask what it was, he explains, “They’re stationary sets. Letters, so you may write to them whenever you please. It was the best way they could keep in direct contact with you.”

“I love it!” She closes her eyes and holds them to her chest. Looking back up at Uncle Renning, she suggests, “We should write one today. All of us, me, you, Geoffrey, Lucia. Oh, oh! And we can add some flowers from the garden!”

Chuckling, Uncle Renning nods. “Okay, sure.”

Elincia slides off his lap to join the other two, already discussing what should be put in the first letter.
