Okay so this is gonna be a really personal post and is probably going to be super long, so everyone’s free to just ignore it, but there’s some stuff I just have to get off my chest. Aaron Hotchner is so important to me, and I feel like sometimes people don’t understand how important these characters can become to the fans, oftentimes for really personal reasons beyond just finding the character physically attractive. There are so many reasons why I love Hotch, but I think the moment when I fell in love with him was this one from Pleasure is my Business:
“Nothing’ll change. They’ll just go back to doing whatever they want and keep getting way with it.”
“Not if I have anything to do with it.”
“How can your wife have ever left someone like you? You’re the first man I ever met who didn’t let me down... Will you stay with me?”
...And he stays with her. As an only child of divorced parents (although my parents’ divorce was completely different than hers, they weren’t rich by any means and it was my mom who was an abusive, cheating bitch who demanded a divorce from my dad, but I digress) who spent way too much time alone growing up because of that, this meant so much to me. And then there is the fact that Haley wanted the divorce while Hotch didn’t, he wanted to make it work and still loved her after she left him and was devastated when she was killed. Even with Beth, she ended it by leaving for her new job (although Hotch didn’t hold her back). Then of course he held the team together and fought back against Strauss when she wanted to get rid of him and break up the team. He was relentless in trying to catch Foyet and save Jack and Haley, and he managed to save Jack even if he couldn’t save Haley. He was a hero who worked with and led his team to catch killers. He was like the rock of the team, always steady. These are just a few of the reasons he’s my favorite. Once I started watching CM it was inevitable that I would fall in love with him, really. This is why I’m so upset.
