Since I left school, I've come to the realization tjat I'm absolutely lost withput deadlines. Not just because I put things off, but mainly because without /something/ looming over my head i feel...directionless? I always thought my constant cycles of procrastinating and last minute crunching was the source of my anxious personality, and that once i was done with school id be able to relax. Two years later and my anxiety is 200% worse: i constantly feel like i "should" be doing something...

(Cont.) Even on days where there’s nothing TO do. I can’t enjoy my days off, im constantly hyper conscious of the passage of time, and on top of that i still put things off and get nothing done! I just want to know if anyone else feels this way? The other day i had a deadline to submit an application and the whole day that i spent procrastinating was the most normal ive felt in months. Its almost like ill be stressed no matter what, but at least with a deadline i can identify a cause.

This makes sense to me. You really don’t know any other way to operate, and so it feels abnormal and uncomfortable in any other state.

This is part of why I set myself goals and tell other people about them. Then I’m accountable to someone else and I have a deadline. It’s definitely worth a try. (I’m really good at ignoring self-imposed deadlines if nobody else knows about them.)

I've had diagnosed ADHD since I was a kid. My mom was cool about it, got me the help I needed, ect. But at some point she self diagnosed herself as also having adhd, but her attitude about it is very frustrating. She doesn't take it very seriously or use the self-diagnosis to examine her behavior and develop appropriate coping mechanisms, she literally only ever brings it up to dismiss me when I "blame things" on having adhd. I.e. "i forgot x bc i have adhd" "well so do I, but /I/ remembered."

(Cont.) She’ll also dismiss things I say abt adhd bc she views herself as being very informed about it, even though information about adhd has changed drastically since she was actively researching it, and becomes highly offended if I even imply that she’s misinformed or being insensitive, and then shuts down and won’t listen at all. Any advice on how to talk to her about this? I wish she would take her self diagnosis seriously at least, since im sure she does suffer from adhd as well.

What about sharing the TotallyADD web site with her? “Mom, I found this really cool ADHD web site for adults and I thought you might like it.” It’s cool because Rick Green is a comedian, and he does these awesome videos about what ADHD is like, the science, and so on. (There are ones you have to pay for that are longer, but the ones I’m thinking of are more like video blogs.)

Depends what kinda stuff you were already planning on seeing/when you're going/what areas you'll be in (manhattan, queen, brooklyn)

oh yea good point lol. the last time I was in nyc (march 2020) I walked extensively in chinatown, jackson heights, and flushing, so I’m good with those areas

the only things I have planned so far are cix’s concert (theater district) and mofad (north east corner of central park). I’m happy with recs in harlem and anywhere in manhattan, but i’m also considering exploring brooklyn :0

Drunk Shakespeare isn’t about following the story. It’s 😆 an experience. All the stage actors get drunk and attempt to follow the story. Theres audience participation too but I think that’s changed since Covid. Some of the shows have just one or two actor get drunk and the sober cast have to play along with the drunk member’s version of the plays. But there are plenty of other plays if you’re interested. Off broadway is always my rec but also if you don’t want to break the bank.

​It’s also small and quaint so you don’t have to squint to see the stage. The stage is in the middle and there’s only 4 or 3 rows circling the stage. If you want to. XD I don’t wanna sound like I’m pushing you.

Adrienne’s pizza is also a really good place to eat. It has a rooftop bar too. It’s not the typical ny slice kinda pizza. Walking the high line is really beautiful too. Having a little lunch there on a bench.
