Bristle Blocks (they came out in the 60s, but I had some in the 80s)
Apparently these things had several names & no real purpose other than to hurt when you stepped on them & to get tangled in your doll's hair when you hastily tossed them in your toybox while cleaning up so you could go to Horn & Horn Smorgasbord with the family.
