Too little has been written (that I can find, at least) about the jaw-dropping pen and ink beauty and mastery of JBLS’s pen and ink illustrations. Granted, his color works are second-place to none, but as we rhapsodize about other golden age crow quill and nib virtuosos, let’s acknowledge John Byam Liston Shaw’s equally looming stature among that rarified realm of giants.
