Confessions - Plus size/Straight Size
If there’s one thing that strikes fear in me it is the phrase “high street shopping”, but you might sit back and ask yourself “por que”. Well give me just one minute and I shall tell you. *Buys ikea lectern, builds it and steps up to the plate*
High street brands are notoriously bad when it comes to catering for plus sizes. When I was growing up our options were either discreet catalog ordering from simply be or the shame and guilt ridden trips to Evans.
Friends my age were all hyped about getting the latest jeans from Topshop or seeing what new collections were in Ms Selfridges, so every invite I was given to go shopping I would promptly turn down.
There was no way I was going to put myself through the distress of entering into fashionable high street shops and getting “the look” from power hungry retailers, followed by the “can I help you” sneer.
Get behind me satan, absolutely not.
You can’t help me, I was cursed to wear oversized men’s shirts for school and banished to the black hole of baggy clothes.
Then surely but slowly…things started changing. We, and by we I mean plus women, had quite enough of feeling like we weren’t worthy of our own existence let alone shopping.
Voices started raising, and they were heard and acknowledged.
It’s taken years and we have a ways to go but stores are actually attempting to cater for plus bodies. Yes, sizing is often an issue and sometimes the designs suck, but something is happening here.
And I am so for it!
We’re seeing high street brands like New Look and H&M not only creating clothing for curve and plus size clothing, but making a conscious effort to really give us what we want.
On trend to this season we have the oversized tshirts with cinchers, pastel everything, metallic and florals, so we are in for quite a summer!
So stay tuned and I’ll be sharing my recent Primark Plus Haul!
