In the entrance way to the Beth Chatto Garden, Essex, UK, a Pelargonium trifidum (brittle-stalked pelargonium) greeted visitors with the flowers appearing to hover over the edge of the container. This South African plant is described as an “aromatic sprawling shrublet with several scrambling branches” and in its native habitat is pollinated by long-tongue flies. It will need to be placed indoors or a glasshouse for the winter in the UK as it is not hardy.

The airy, delicate flowers of Pelargonium trifidum (brittle-stalked pelargonium) are being grown in the shelter of a glasshouse. This aromatic sprawling shrublet has scrambling branches. The stems are brittle with succulent leaves that fall off when there are drought conditions. This native plant of South Africa was introduced into England in 1792.
