Thanks for all your advice, and I think I'll follow all of it! :) I've found quite a few patterns that I like, some fancy, some simple. I'll start with simple, though, and go from there. As long as I don't go all out with sequins and beads and bright, shiny yarns and lace so complicated I can barely understand the pattern, I think it'll work.
Maybe I'll start with this one. The pattern is lovely, but it's not too flowery or ornate, and I think it'll look good with a darker color, like rust or dark red.
