5. “Sorry I almost killed you over the peach cobbler.” with TimKon?
I have a serious lack of wording ability at the moment, but I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. I failed at making it TimKon, but Tim and Kon being teenage bros seemed to be where my brain finally took this.
~*~
The Kent kitchen is a bright and cheerful place, full of the clutter used by a farmer’s wife. But even then, everything is in its place, well-loved and with a story to tell. If the walls could talk, they’d regale the listener with tales of a young couple trying to make ends meet, of their sorrow over being unable to conceive a child, and of the miracle that crash landed in their corn field late one night. They’d speak of love and loss, of hope and despair. Of late nights wondering if a son would ever return home.
If they were given a choice though, they’d probably want to forget what’s occurring at the gingham covered dining table.
Tim glares at Kon. Kon glares at Tim. Between them rests the remains of a freshly baked peach cobbler that is supposed to be dessert but has somehow found its way into the bellies of two teenage super heroes.
“You tell her. She’s your aunt.”
“You tell her. You’re the one who lies to Batman.”
“What makes you think I want to lie to Mrs. Kent when this is clearly your fault?”
“My fault? You’ve got a fork right there, same as me!”
It’s hard to say which of them throws the first blow, but they’re soon wrestling around on the floor yelling at each other. Kon is this close to using his super strength on his best friend when they slam into the end of kitchen table. The old wooden legs crack and the table tips over, sending gingham, the cobbler dish, and their forks to the floor.
“Oh shit,” is all Kon has time for when Aunt Martha comes racing into the room.
“What on earth are you two doing?” she cries out.
The boys scramble out from under the mess and stand sheepishly in front of her. Kon is pleased to see that Tim’s overly gelled hair is all over the place. It’s a better look for him anyway.
“We were arguing and things got… out of hand,” Tim replies lamely, unable to look up from the floor.
“What were you arguing about?” Aunt Martha asks, cutting right to the heart of the matter.
Kon feels the back of his neck reddening from embarrassment. Of all the people in the world who can make him feel like the child he technically is, it’s Aunt Martha. He hates disappointing her. The Kents have been nothing but awesome to him since Kal dropped him off here and this is what he does to repay that.
Tim doesn’t say anything, so Kon takes up the reins. “We were fighting over who would tell you that we accidentally ate all the cobbler.”
“Well, that’s just silly,” Aunt Martha states. “I made two. I kept one in the fridge since I know I’ve got two growing boys here right now.”
Jaws drop and Kon shares a look with Tim, who is just as shocked as him.
“Now, you two apologize to each other and clean up this mess,” Aunt Martha continues. “When you’re done, take the table out to the patio and we’ll see what we can do to fix it.”
She leaves them to it.
Tim rubs a hand over the back of his head. “Sorry I almost killed you over the peach cobbler,” he says.
Kon scoffs and grabs hold of his best friend. “Like you stood a chance.”
He catches Tim muttering something about making a kryptonite fork and ignores it in favor of holding up the table so his friend can pick up the pie dish and their forks. Whatever, the sooner they get this done, the sooner they can go back to their video game. Kon is determined to absolutely crush Tim at Super Smash Bros. And if he can just get his hands on that hammer, he will.
You won’t kiss me right? I won’t even hug you.
