First shot at an informal pen Roman 😬 Clearly I have some practice ahead of me. It's a really lovely script though
Ohhhh would you write The Sunday Morning Post? ... I may want to use it for my other blog!! :D 💗
I double checked your blog to see the theme and figured something in Italic Calligraphy would suit it best but my hand is so shaky because of the lack of practice T_T But I hope you like it. I’d probably do a redo of this when I have a better grasp at majuscules. :)
These cards (along with some super tasty slow cooker sweet potatoes) are coming with me to friendsgiving in Chicago this afternoon. I'm still struggling to get a feel for these informal pen capitals, but I couldn't have picked a better project for practice. You can watch the vid in real time at https://youtu.be/EpREyE_y9YA. Thanks are due to my friend @ian_f_king for letting me steal his music for all my videos. Happiest of Thanksgivings to all of you and your loved ones 😊🦃🍁
A really fun client project gave me the push I needed to pick up a broad-edge pen again. I can't share the final piece, but part of it included a hybrid script strongly influenced by Insular Majuscule. This is a little alphabet I did while working out how to adjust the letter forms... I started with the Agedage Insular font because it was fast and easy for the basic forms, but afterwards I may have stayed up all night looking through every single page of the Book of Kells on the Trinity College of Dublin's site, figuring out all the nuances of the different letterforms, the ligatures and looking at how they were used in context.... 🤓 I think it's a gorgeous script. I want to start bringing it in to some of my own work.
Last week I finally started organizing all the photos I have of my great grandfather's work and this certificate caught my eye. I hadn't looked at it that closely before because this photo is all I have and it's small and of poor quality, but I think it's probably a really lovely piece. I hope someone in the extended family still has it. It's a certificate for the Christian Endeavor Society honoring my great grandfather's brother, Clarence, who died at a relatively young age I believe. I'm not confident on the date because that part of the photo is a bit washed out, but it looks like April 29th, 1901 or maybe 1907?
