Sparta showed up with a spear(!) in her head on May 26th after her 1500 mile journey to the Colorado Front Range. Here she is looking up at Persia who was ready to knock her from her perch in an epic battle for the feeder.

Broad-tailed hummingbirds live from Montana through Guatemala, preferring high elevations and pine-oak habitats. They breed in the central-western US and winter in Mexico and Guatemala. During a breeding season, both males and females mate with multiple partners. Males produce a trilling sound with their wing feathers to attract females. Females usually return to a particular preferred nest site from year to year, and tend to nest at over 10,000 feet!
Theyre so loud when they fly past but theyre kinda little, round, and chunky otherwise
Rufous hummingbirds breed in the western US and Canada and winter in Mexico, migrating over 2000 miles—an especially impressive journey for such a tiny bird. They breed farther north than any other hummingbird, sometimes as far north as southeastern Alaska. They feed on nectar or catch insects on the wing. They are known to be especially aggressive and feisty, able to drive off hummingbirds up to twice their weight from their territories. Males court females by performing steep dives.

🦜ALRIGHT THERE SUCKERS IT'S HUMMING BIRD WEEK🦜
As you can see from the first image, I was struggling really badly with the technology I was using. This happens to me pretty frequently - I literally forget how the hell to draw or paint. If I take a break - and I do (because like...I have a kid, a mini farm, and a job all to herd), I kind of lose confidence. And once I lose confidence, I regularly forget how to do anything.
Then I start drawing again and it gradually comes back. But we can go for years in between.
First up we have...I don't know. What is it. I would have based it off some references but hell.
A really bad Purple Throated Sun Angel? Maybe? Hells.
Second little dude is probably a Broad Tailed Hummingbird that's just landed.
For fun, today a dude at the dog park told me I wasn't an artist because I use digital mediums. I don't even JUST use digital mediums, I use a lot of stuff, but apparently the Taint of Computers is enough I'm cursed forever or something.
