Alastor: Why, radio of course! I'm very fortunate enough to be in a position to indulge my passion as my job.

Back in the Bayou I could only do my show on a pirate station, with no pay attached to it. It was a hobby long before I ever dreamed of being able to be an offical host. When I unfortunatly moved out here for work I had to shut down my show with no idea if I was going to be able to grace the airwaves again. Radio technician was the highest job that I could legally obtain on that field after all.

Luckily after a few years I was able to charm my way into a private audition when a spot opened up! The one producer who was extremly against the idea had an... unfortunate accident, just before my scheduled audition. Such fortunatus timing! 😏

Vincent: Wait, you worked at the station before you were a host?

Alastor: I did. We never spoke, but we worked in the same studio a few times back when you were still a broadcast engineer.

Vincent: Huh, wonder why I never noticed you back then...

Job hunting???

So I'm getting to the point where I'm due to graduate from uni in July so I need to get a job and try and be an adult. And all I wanna do is apply to Google and YouTube because that's what I do all the time. So I'm looking a jobs for YouTube and every one i find I cross off because 1.must be able to use MySQL and Linux What no! Can I learn that in a month? Not likely 2. The word management is involved. I can manage time fine, I can manage my projects fine, but seriously that word is scary. 3.coding! Well I know some, can I learn it in a month? Hell no. So I've come to the conclusion that unless I gain years of experience and learn how to code and use Linux and all that stuff, I won't get a job at either. However I have hope that I can learn all this within the next 5 years. Maybe. We will see.

Broadcast Engineer

So i'm currently applying to be an apprentice Broadcast Engineer for the BBC. I'm up a against a lot of very young and passionate people and so I really need to bring my A game to stand a chance against them. I'm really excited about it and although there's things i'll have to learn that i've never looked into before, like PHP, C++, Networking and basic electrics so that I can take equipment apart and put it back together, I'm still super siked! I've been a camera operator and editor for 3 years and even though I've got some great experience, like I said I'm older than the rest of the people applying and so might not stand a chance :( But I'm trying anyways and this blog is so I can keep a record of everything I learn and am doing to get myself a job :D

Calling all Broadcast Engineers

Well its been a while since I've been on here and considering what this blog is about I think that's a really good thing :p On Saturday I was at the BBC in Salford because they had an apprenticeship open day to explain the funding available for training people as Broadcast Engineers. Everyone was so helpful and passionate! It was amazing to be surrounded by people like that and now it has just made me even more determined to pull my socks up and really push for what I want. So watch out world, that BBC Breakfast studio has me hooked and you can't get rid of me now!
