Back in September, this alert interrupted broadcasts in Orange County, California.

The audio is a frantic man talking about how aliens have taken over parts of the government, how disasters are coming, and abruptly cutting out.

This naturally caused some panic, but oddly enough, this isn’t new audio at all.

In 1994, Art Bell started a radio show called Coast to Coast AM. The show covered topics such as aliens, conspiracy, cryptozoology, and similar concepts.

On September 11, 1997, Bell took a call from a man claiming to be a former employee at area 51.

The creepiest thing about this is that the station’s power systems failed mid-call, like the man had shared something he shouldn’t have and the signal had been taken out by the powers that be.

However, in April, the man called back.

He reveals that he had called playing a character, and apologizes. When Art asks if he had anything to do with the power going out, the man says that he hadn’t. He says that the last thing he wanted to do was take the show off the air, and hopes it was just a coincidence and that he hadn’t somehow made up something that aligned so well with a government secret, that they felt the need to cover it up. To prove that it was him, he plays the character again at the end of the call.

So yeah. It’s interesting that 20 years later this man is still causing panic, when he originally didn’t intend to be taken seriously at all.
