Things are getting giddy in Provo, Utah.
Here’s a funky one!
Ramin Karimloo and Hadley Fraser are two of my favourite current performers - I was lucky enough to see them both in Les Misérables in 2012 and have been obsessed ever since. You might know them as Enjolras (Karimloo) and Grantaire (Fraser) in the Les Mis 25th Anniversary Concert. But they also briefly had a band, Sheytoons! The name comes from a Farsi expression meaning ‘climb down from the devil’s donkey’ (Karimloo is Iranian).
Sheytoons were most active when Karimloo and Fraser were performing in shows together between about 2011 and 2014, and now that they are in different countries the output is pretty much gone (though if they ever come across this - we’d love more!!). But the songs they have are fantastic! The band formed when they were putting on the 25th anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera, in which Karimloo was the Phantom and Fraser was Raoul. Apparently, getting into prosthetics took Karimloo over two hours each time, and so Fraser used to sit with him and jam on the guitar to pass the time - and so Sheytoons was born! They call their music broadgrass, which is a cross between Broadway and bluegrass. And genuinely - it’s wonderful. Beautiful voices, beautiful songwriters. Browsing YouTube for half an hour to gain a sense of their work is really worth the time!
I know it's been 7 years, but I have an important question to ask.
Does anyone remember/know what type of a plant did Ramin have in "Vlogger 24601"?
