CASSIE!JEAN DEBUT!!!!
Okay but can we TALK about this interview with Jon Bernthal about Dog Day Afternoon because I have thoughts. many thoughts.
Firsy of all — broadway debut??? sir???
He’s stepping into Sonny, the role immortalized by Al Pacino in the 1975 film, and instead of trying to “out-Pacino” Pacino (which would be unhinged), he’s talking about vulnerability. softness. fear. love.
Like, yes we know him as the gravel-voiced, bruised-knuckle, emotionally constipated king of television, but the way he describes Sonny? terrified. desperate. deeply in love. not a macho criminal fantasy — a man doing something reckless out of devotion.
And the fact that the story centers on robbing a bank to pay for his partner’s gender-affirming surgery? that this is a love story wrapped in chaos? it feels so intentional that he wanted to explore masculinity through that lens.
Also talking about loving the rehearsal process. living with the character. taking it home. letting it change him. Theatre Jon is a different animal and I am obsessed with that.
And he’s doing it alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach which just makes it better because their dynamic is already electric.
Anyway, I’m not normal about this. Broadway Jon is going to ruin me. 🎭
In Dog Day Afternoon on Broadway, he’s examining masculinity in a way that feels like a departure from his usual characters.
Sequoiia Dally debut!!! I’m totally shook on how comfy, confident, and natural he was up there! You could not tell at all this was not only his outsiders debut but his full on broadway debut!! He absolutely smashed it and I love his take so much on Dally already and can’t wait to go back and see him again! Also please look at everyone in the background hyping him up?! I say this every time but I fricken love this cast!
I was so excited to see this!!!! This nomination is SO well deserved!
