if you don’t mind bringing it up again what was the “they witnessed a murder” thing? i feel like it’s a reference to the abandoned days and although i was watching at the time i was never really involved in the fandom.
(I just took some NyQuil so forgive me if none of this is coherent, spelled correctly, or eloquent)
Back in 2017, snc filmed a video titled "Exploring Abandoned Insane Asylum (Girl screams) | *scary*" with the Ireland Boys (which, somehow, this is not the most disastrous collab they've done with the Ireland Boys lol). The video is still up, so you can certainly watch it if you want but basically they hear a woman screaming from off in the distance while they are trying to get out of this asylum, and notice helicopters flying overhead and a police presence after they get out of the woods.
They end the video by saying they will be calling the police and never really say anything about it again. Some time later, people start insisting that snc actually witnessed a murder that night without knowing it. There have been a few different stories about the murder they *allegedly* "witnessed" - originally, it was attributed to the murder of 2 teenage girls by a man in the woods, but later evolved into being the murder of a woman named Laura Wallen. This eventually became the prevailing theory because that is an actual murder that took place near where they were filming that night - but not near enough that they would have heard her screaming (her murder happened about 45 minutes from where they were filming). It also didn't help that the Ireland Boys made a video about the whole thing several years later and corroborated the rumor (while at the same time fully admitting that they never knew they had supposedly witnessed a murder until tiktok told them, so take from that what you will).
There are some articles about this whole thing out there on the web that do a pretty good job piecing together the timeline of both events and how they could not have been connected, but I guess the salaciousness of them having witnessed a murder supercedes anything resembling facts and logic, so now poor Laura Wallen and her family are unintentionally part of the snc lore forever.
Edited to add: obviously, something was going on in those woods that night. I don't think that is in dispute. But it was not Laura's murder. That's the part of the conspiracy that always gets me, because not only do people think they witnessed an actual person's murder, they get mad that 4 idiot teenagers didn't do anything to...stop said murder? How do you expect them to do that when they're stumbling around unfamiliar woods in the dark without any knowledge of what is happening?
