I'm sure people realize now and I was gonna post this a few episodes ago, but Jordan not saying "I love you" back had nothing to do with a narrative for a possible death at the end of the season and everything to do with Jordan's consistent, growing fear of losing Marie

1st instance we see was ridiculous, but very Jordan and in-character) Marie blurted it out, and although they'd just made up and Jordan expressed their vulnerable truth, retreating when her words are said out loud and reality of their deepening relationship sinking in...again...causes Jordan to backpedal

2nd instance, before the fight) made sense, because Jordan had already confessed at this point and shared vulnerability again, and Marie was providing a source of comfort, rather than it being something that the two needed to clarify between them....This was Marie's reassurance and Jordan's acceptance of being loved, for once (this whole episode 4, from Marie saying, "I'm with you" to the kiss before the fight was very intentional to show Jordan moving in a direction of personal growth to be cared for), and it's an intimate moment of growth between them for their relationship

3rd instance, after Marie brings Annabeth back to life) *was when I was 100% certain Limoreau was gonna break up; Jordan can't say it back, because, once again, this theme of being afraid they're going to lose Marie comes up. Jordan knows Marie is powerful and fears someday she's going to (indirectly) be too powerful for them--Jordan has had a lot of issues with an ego regarding rankings, but I think this season proved that's all in the past, and they don't gad at this point *once Jordan got the #1, they immediately didn't care anymore--whether it's the fear of heartbreak from an inability of being able to protect Marie due to not having control when she's becoming stronger & a target, or being vulnerable only to get left behind, Jordan has known the circumstances surrounding Marie's new power will be impossible for them to control since the end of episode 4, and so they control the emotions and any capability they have by making the decision to lose her before she or someone else can be in the driver's seat. Jordan is so scared of Marie getting hurt that they would rather do the hurting to themselves before anyone else can
